In the past year I’ve become interested in thrift shopping and upcyled clothing. I sell my upcycled clothing on Etsy. Too much fashion these days is disposable, and ends up in landfills. I try to give clothing that is still in good shape a second life, as well as providing people with one-of-a-kind wearable art.

One of my favorite techniques for upcycling plain clothing is to dye it, and my favorite dying technique is called ice dying. I cover the garment in ice (sometimes the clothing is wet, sometimes it is dry, depending on the look I am going for) and then sprinkle powdered dye on top. As the ice melts the dye dissolves and soaks into the clothing. The patterns are unpredictable and lovely – I love the surprise!
