A hospitalized woman’s only hope for a merry Christmas is to believe in the power of prayer.

The protagonist, Joanie, is an eighty-year-old woman who has been in the hospital for months following a stroke.

She has no family or friends that visit her and her cold and cranky nurse barely pays attention to her.

The nurse leaves the room when she can’t get Joanie to stop complaining about the awful Christmas music on repeat.

One day, Joanie begins talking to herself, telling herself that she needs to make it through one more day before she can have Christmas break.

Just then, an old man walks into her room carrying a small package.

The man introduces himself as John Christ and tells Joanie he knows she is lonely at Christmas time and has come to cheer her up with a gift for her.

After opening the present, Joanie finds a small statue of Santa Claus with an inscription that reads “I’m always watching.”
