This ‘Chimera’ Kitten Is Probably The Cutest Accident That Ever Happened To Nature
Watch out Venus, there’s a new two-faced cat in town! This is Quimera, a gorgeous gata from Argentina whose unusual features are taking the internet by storm.
Quimera may be what’s known as a Genetic chimera cat, a rare natural occurrence whereby an individual is made up of cells from at least two different original eggs. They fuse together to become a single organism whose DNA is from two completely different individuals.
However, this adorable cat may also be a mosaic, much more common in felines, which is only one individual egg that just happens to have different active genetic expressions in its cells. Only DNA testing would give the answer.
Either way, she’s a truly beautiful cat! The blue eye color especially appears like some kind of precious stone, bright and beautiful, and utter contrast to her other eye. The chimerism color split continues down her chest to her front legs, with the sides reversed.
Quimera has built up quite a following on Instagram, which is updated regularly as the cute cat goes about her life, unaware of her fame and unique appeal to cat lovers around the world. Check her out!

This kitty is truly gorgeous. I love the whole concept of chimera. It can happen in people, too, but it not obvious like it can be in cats. It is much less rare in cats than people. There was a news story several years ago of a mom that had her kids taken away from her because she signed up for food stamps in a state that required genetic testing and the test showed they were her sister's kids, not hers, but she didn't have a sister. It just so happened that she was pregnant at the time and she gave birth with authorities in the room who immediately took DNA material to test and the baby's test returned the same result. Turns out the genetic material in the mom's cheek where they take the swab is different than in other parts of her body because she is chimera. Fascinating!

Grace Thompson, there is a time and place for your out bursts !! Take a joke or just don't reply back if you don't like what somebody wrote !! Everyone has their own opinion but you don't have to display how you feel !! Either way I thought it was funny !!!!

I wonder if the cat the cat has been tested to determine if chimerism has actually occurred or if the cat is just an extremely unique colouring due to a normal genetic split?

They can. Interestingly enough, it would be possible to have a Chimera cat that has one foot polydactyl and the other not, because of their chimerism :)

When I was a little girl, I always wanted to have the job of designing the kitties & puppies before they were born. It was very upsetting when I was told that it wasn’t a job I could have. I’m still upset about it!
