My work explores the process of materials and color as they work together. I am inspired by the interconnectivity of my subject and its surroundings which I strive to emulate in my use of materials and process. Butterflies attract me as a subject as a flitting presence in nature that creates a profound impact in the short period of life it has.
My work captures the nuances of their beauty with the nuance that only a delicate material like watercolor can achieve. Painting on wet surfaces with interconnected layers of color gives the material an opportunity for colors to intermingle and create a happenstance of beauty emulated in the wings of the butterfly. Each of the 23 (and counting) butterflies has its own uniqueness emulated by the beauty of nature.
