Post-it notes. The world would be in chaos without them. Nobody would remember anything. Nobody would be able to turn their office walls into superhero murals. Nobody would be able to leave passive-aggressive messages on the doors of communal refrigerators or plan their next funny prank. And nobody would be able to have the sort of epic sticky note battle that recently took place in New York.
It all started innocently enough. An employee at Harrison and Star wrote a simple “hi” in Post-it notes on her window and waited for somebody to respond. And somebody did. They wrote “sup”. So far, so civil. But this office prank didn’t stop there. Oh no. It was only just getting started! Both buildings host a number of marketing and media agencies and their inhabitants couldn’t resist getting involved in the action with their creative ideas. Soon enough the windows were full of funny messages and pictures with hundreds of Post-it note pads used. But as you’ll discover below, even the best pranks come to devastating end in the most unexpected of ways…(h/t: twisted sifter)
Update: Wonder what they did with all of those used Post-it notes? They were used as part of a fundraising campaign for the NY Veteran’s Hospital! Click here to learn more.
Everything started with an innocent “HI” on the 6th floor at 75 Varick Street in NYC

Soon, “Sup” appeared on a building from across the street at 200 Hudson

As both buildings had a lot of media and marketing agencies, it eventually turned into WAR

The windows started filling up with funny pictures and messages

Others took a more random approach

Even the Angry Birds got involved!

Post-it manufacturer 3M also joined the war by providing free ammunition (i.e Post-it notes!)

As the war got more creative, it seemed that nobody would win

Not even Spiderman could stop it!

With no other option, Havas Worldwide brought the war to an end with this epic mic drop
Workers stayed late with beer and pizza to create the spectacular finale, and fellas from Spectacle Studio later posted this video

Unfortunately, the battle was ended by building managers who ordered all participants to have everything taken down by the weekend.

not to mention post it note are reusable... if they havent been written on they can still be written on.. for example...

They must not get a lot of business if they had all that free time to do this. Still fun to watch.
If you ask anyone in advertising, they'd tell you exactly why that is the case. Unlike normal 9-5's we need the break from routine to actually do our work i.e be creative. Monotony is the enemy so we tend to do stupid (yet wildly entertaining) s**t from time to time.

And a shout out to Image credits: Mike Segar and that Bored Panda.....you may be bored, but it gives you time to bring us all great news stories instead of those that sound like Criminal Mind episodes....

I have one question... Is that video a sped up version of them doing that, because how is that possible if they're using sticky notes
I was wondering if it was done via stop-motion? That is, taking the first picture, then moving all the post-it's very slightly, snapping the next one, and repeating? ...Stop-motion is a time-consuming and laborious process, if that's how they did it then someone is well-versed in the movements! ...Otherwise, the first picture would be the original one, then they would have computer animated each subsequent frame digitally.

Wow ! This planet is much safer if the war we used to know would be exactly like this.

humans need interaction , our pets have more things to keep their brain healthy and them happy , no wonder these workers enjoyed doing this .
Yall are dumb complaining about the waist of the paper i bet yall waist more of your time than paper and to me time is worth more than paper
Building management made a HUGE mistake. No amount of budgeting could have bought this type of positive advertising. Now, people who have heard about the building management's decision will likely be less inclined to rent space which is at a premium in NYC. Honestly, the tenants and the Post-It Note's manufacturer literally did all the advertising for them and they were foolish to not capitalize on it. Not thought through at all!
Stupid building managers ruined the best source of FREE advertising they've likely ever had. What harm was done?? Why stop something that would attract attention from around the world, If it wasn't harming anyone? If I ever own/manage a building and someone wanted to do that, they'd be more than welcome. Specially if the post it notes were supplied for free!!
So much fun! And they're sticky notes...still usable. Just take them down and put them back in a pile...a little less sticky, but still usable.
No matter what age society still tries to beat it out of you. Diversity, talent and leadership are great pillars for any organization.

Many posti-it are made of recycled paper and are recyclable material as well, I believe. Someone, please, correct me if I'm wrong.
