Without the lamp, it looks like either a Ringwraith or a Dementor. Fifty shades of scary either way! 🤯
we made sculptures on a smaller scale like this when I was in school doing my art btec, we used wire, plastic bags (to shape our figures bodies if we wanted) and "modroc" aka those plaster roll bandage type things, but they dried firm so... I imagine this was made by draping towels covered in cement?
Future paleontologists are going to have a field day! Muahahah
They laid some new concrete footpaths around here not long ago, and it just so happened to be autumn, so we got a beautiful effect like this purely by accident!
Imagine the patience needed for this, because I imagine not every imprint worked out and had to be redone. also, lining them up like that... you can see its a tiny bit off but still, wow!
The magic of arts and crafts is something many of us fondly remember from childhood. But as we grow older, with tasks, deadlines, and responsibilities piling up, it becomes harder to find the time to make something with our hands. Add in our reliance on technology to do most things for us, and crafting becomes an even rarer activity.
To encourage you to explore DIY, Bored Panda spoke with Liam O’Connor, a talented woodworker and furniture maker from San Francisco, about why crafting can be such a joyful experience.
“I really enjoy the peace and quiet I feel while making something, even though most of the tools I use are quite loud,” he shares. “Working with my hands is very relaxing to me and calms my mind a lot. I also like the sense of accomplishment and problem solving.”
I can picture a country/rustic kinda themed wedding where this is the arch... xP
Cute idea, though personally I'd have gone with a more vintage look without designer labels, but that's just me.
A glance at O’Connor’s creations quickly reveals why he loves what he does. His work is original, playful, and full of character. One day, he’s breathing life into whimsical wooden dolls and forest spirits, and the next, he’s crafting a cozy pet den shaped like a quirky (but friendly) monster. What many of us only imagine, O’Connor turns into reality—whether it’s fish-shaped, googly-eyed kitchen utensils or a robot speaker with a clock. His creations are as fun as they are skillfully made.
O’Connor’s woodworking abilities didn’t appear overnight—they’re the result of years of practice. But for many, the idea that they won’t excel right away in a new hobby can be discouraging.
“Don’t expect to make anything great in the beginning,” O’Connor advises. “Your first attempt at a new craft is probably going to turn out kinda rough, but that’s part of learning. I think social media often shows people making things quickly and perfectly, without revealing the failures it took to get there. Just jump in, do your best, and don’t be afraid to make something ugly.”
I believe it was the Moon Spirit and the Sea Spirit

Load More Replies...Gotta raise the tools high over your head (potentially dangerous) to get them in. And, you need a high ceiling. WAY more trouble than hanging them on wall hooks, and also much harder to clean around. This idea is a solid NOPE.
While it’s easy to become obsessed with the final product of your craft, the process itself is where the real gratification lies. And science backs this up. A study published in Frontiers in Public Health found that engaging in arts and crafts can significantly boost mental health, happiness, and life satisfaction.
I doubt that they light a fire there, probably decorative for children that believe santa comes down the chimney
Load More Replies...What’s even better is that you don’t need to invest in complicated projects to start. “Engaging with arts and crafts is accessible and affordable. Options such as knitting and drawing require very few tools and can be engaging and creatively fulfilling activities,” says Dr. Helen Keyes, cognitive psychologist and head of the school of psychology and sport science at Anglia Ruskin University, and one of the authors of the study.
My cat would love this for a week, then never set paw in it again!
a high sad brick house, who is trying to keep eyes open? 🙃
Load More Replies...I'VE ALREADY BUILT THE BOTTOM YEARS AGO. WOULD LOVE TO ADD THE REST. THIS IS COOL.
I've seen a few people making these, and they look so cute! also a bit more durable than the traditional wicker basket, but nicer looking than those rough plastic ones, and much cosier looking. I might give it a go someday and make a cat bed. xP
And since there are lots of sizes of tires, you can customize the doggie bed to fit any size pooch. Way to go!
Although art-based hobbies have long been recognized for their positive impact on well-being, much of the research has focused on individuals with mental health struggles. Dr. Keyes’ study, however, focuses on the general population, proving that crafting can lift anyone’s spirits.
In our region a guy puts bird houses on his fence posts all painted pretty colors.
sometimes it's the little things that just brighten up the world, they just put a smile on peoples face and for that, they're wonderful. This is one such example.
They look like vine posts for growing grapes. You wouldn't have fences so close together.
Load More Replies...I think it would make a good coastal Christmas tree because it kinda reminds me or coral. If someone did it in aquas, whites and blues, then added a few shells here and there, maybe a pearl garland. It could be a mermaid tree
Load More Replies...I used to get so sick of having to decorate pinecones- it was always one of the activities we did at advent/pre Christmas clubs. My grandma always collected them during the year and when my grandparent moved into a nursing home, the leftovers were being stored by my mum. I think she ended up bringing them with her when she moved house almost 10 years later, because she didn't remember having them, and has found they are great in the fire.
The study also highlights how crafting offers a sense of achievement and self-expression through creation. “A sense of mastery is important for wellbeing, and there is inherently a sense of mastery associated with crafting and creating art; that is, people can see their progress and be proud of what they are producing,” Keyes explains. Being patient and improving over time is a big part of why it feels so rewarding.
I love the second picture that shows how you can make it fairly sturdy and still easily removable after Halloween.
Bold to assume they want to remove it after Halloween ;)
Load More Replies...I WONDER IF THE PICTURE OF THE HEADLESS HORSEMAN IS DECOUPAGED OR PAINTED ON..
One has to be careful with pallets. If you pick one up from the dump or from an industrial area, you may be bringing bugs and toxic chemicals to your home. Since many freighters use pallets from overseas, they have to spray toxic chemicals to get rid of mites, bugs, etc.
I found this website that is helpful for discerning “safe” vs “unsafe” pallets :). A bit US/Canada-centric, but still widely applicable. https://www.1001pallets.com/pallet-safety/ Edit: deleted old comment and replaced it with more useful info!
Load More Replies...So, why not make today the day you start something new?
Even O’Connor, with all his experience, is excited to keep learning. “There are so many different things I want to try out,” he says. “Lately, I’ve been interested in metalworking, especially to add accents to my woodworking.”
Who knows what incredible things your hands and imagination can create next?
I have several toad houses that I put out in my window well and the toads love them. This year a massive one moved in to the biggest house and kicked the little one out. I named it Jabba. :) The little one just chose a different house to live in.
Load More Replies......this is a brilliant idea I might have to steal to do with the kid someday, I did say that next summer when I'm (fingers crossed) off treatment and better, we'd set up a fairy garden. xP
You could grab those on the cheap at yard sales and off CL.
Load More Replies...It needs a roll down door to keep it clean and dry when not in use. This is amazing!
Same thought I had. With the amount of storms and rain we get, it would all mold in a season.
Load More Replies...When I see this, all I can think about is spiders and earwigs nestled down between the cushions. Yikes!
Enclosed, with the door white on the inside to show movies (not full door picture)
put a screened-in front on that with a door and i'd live in that during warmer months!
♫ When life gets rough, I like to hold on to my dream | Of relaxing in the summer sun, just lettin' off steam | Oh, the sky will be blue, and you guys'll be there too | When I finally do what frozen things do in summer ♫
this, I would want in my garden if I had enough money/space to buy a grand piano just for this purpose.
Very pretty but the sound from this would drive me potty. But then, I prefer a tinkle to a splash
Do it then. You aren't using the chairs ... and when it falls to pieces you'll have no problem in throwing it away because it's served its purpose. Even pay someone to do it !
Load More Replies...This was a big trend 20 years ago. People decided it was dumb and uncomfortable and it stopped.
It’s great to put pots of flowers on to get some height and the extend the container garden on the ground. The color of the bench wld add color to a container garden feature as well!
Load More Replies...you would almost have to do this, otherwise it would just collect rainwater and then you'd have a mosquito farm! :-D
Load More Replies...I could see this being one of those things people say "Oh I could make that!" then find out in fact they cannot. :P
Load More Replies...and what do you do when all the nutmeat is gone? I guess it depends on how these are stuck to the board.
Load More Replies...I like it, but I feel like I'm getting splinters just looking at it LOL
Maybe someplace in the bar or tack room. It's just waay to "rustic" and are you sure there are no termites or ants in that?
Not very stable. If the bricks were stacked in a normal brickwork pattern 🧱, they would look nicer, and be more likely to stay put - even without the mortar
"Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving"
Load More Replies...it's a bookcase/shelving to the human slaves, but for the cats, it's a cat tree.
Load More Replies...I wanted to do that, but I never found enough old and pretty furniture at a reasonable price.
Thank you for saying that. I was wondering what they were made from.
Load More Replies...It's cute, and super clever, but I feel like the drawer knobs would be obnoxious on your legs.
clever, but I'd make the ottoman be able to fit in the bottom of the chair whenever it's not being used (looks like you can't from this angle)
until it gets windy... I loved windchimes, until I put them outside and it got windy.
Load More Replies...It works with a straw when you trap it at the top.
Load More Replies...Seeing how the other pipe holds some sort of kibble, I'd guess there was water filled in from the open side and just allowed to balance out in the bend? So you have a feeding and water bowl that can withstand lively squirrel attacks? Not that the water comes out of the house and just evens out like that...
cute, but that paint won't last outside. unless it's treated often, even varnished wood can erode away outside.
I have seen these AND made them! Best place to get teapots was the crappy antique stores, cheap teapots from all eras.
Nice! How is the tea pot lid attaached? I can see the teapot is attached to the roof by the handle.
Load More Replies...awhh, I think I can see a fluffy lil chick in one of the rose teapots :3
I think it's a fake candle. I might be wrong but I hope it is!
Load More Replies...Oh... so you really are a negative poster. And here I thought your other post was a one off and I gave you the benefit of just being a pinch snarky.
Load More Replies...😂. It has to be staged. They probably just stuck a bunch from the grocery store in dirt
Load More Replies...Something similar is the 100 water balloon device. After the water balloons drop, the plastic device makes an excellent sprayer!
I love it but how could they drill the pieces without breaking them?
I'd be so afraid of this falling and breaking. It's clever and certainly creative though.
Plottwist: it was the dog bed, but the dog died and is now buried under the flowers.
Load More Replies...I imagine a lot. Bottles are very sturdy when the force comes from the top.
Load More Replies...I don't know, RBB. It sure would make keeping track of the remotes easier.
Load More Replies...Love to see things people have made, even when they’re not to my taste. More like this, Bored Panda! Please please please!
The world is full of creative, talented, resourceful people and they’ve made something for almost everyone. So much nicer than mass produced c**p made with slave labor overseas.
very interesting models and crafts, surely will assist and will create some of them, especially them pallets . Bless You !
Some folks have so much imagination and the talent to go with it! Me, I have trouble painting Easter eggs all one colour.
As a hand crafter, I am thrilled that more people are appreciative and understanding of the hard work put into these things. As a knitter, I always get asked if I can make something for someone else, and my response has always been a breakdown of the price and time and usually people walk away. Now more people understand why I can't just "whip something up" for anyone unless I am paid fairly.
Is it just me or does it seem like these folks have an awful lot of wine bottles and teapots on hand?
