My name is Omri Koresh, i’m a painter. (omrikoresh.com / facebook.com/omrikoreshart )

When I was a child I was fat, really fat. When I was 7 my father bought a pair of extra extra large jeans for me that I wore until I was around 20. Wearing the same size changed my view of my self, instead of realizing that I was growing and changing I just felt overweight and insecure.

I was very introverted and quiet, it didn’t help making friends easy. How i perceived myself made me feel unwelcome no matter what actually happened in real life. As a gay youth it was very difficult to cope with my sexuality when i didn’t even know who I am and what I looked like, it was all too confusing.

One day a friend of mine bought a camera and asked to photograph me. I agreed because I thought, well “why not!” I was never photographed and I thought it could be interesting. I got compliments on my looks but i always thought that’s how people behave, it’s not real or sincere.

After my first shoot I was shocked. I could actually look at myself and not feel disgusted. For the first time I could see myself in a different light! I started to seek out photographers to build my confidence through different kinds of photography. Later I started to photograph myself as well.

Even now that i’m far from my teens artistic photography helps me feel more confident and in control of my perception of myself by giving me the freedom and joy to explore more looks for myself and having fun with it!

These photographs represent my journey to self acceptance. Creating art is what drives me and what I live for.
