In zoos, the famous philosopher John Berger once wrote, animals have become the living monuments of their disappearance. It is a truth beyond words, but there are in fact alarming signs that the world of animals as we have known them from our childhood is about to diminish rapidly. Certainly no picture can preserve a living beeing, and the ancient egypt culture even considered the word for „picture“ to be synonymous to the word „death“, but maybe photographs can raise awareness of the own and beautiful world of „our“ animals. Therefore my husband (a biologist) and I (a theologian) spend our spare time to capture the magnificent sight of the still countless creatures we meet. Our page „tierphilosophie.de“ futhermore includes notes and short essays on different aspects of animal philosophy (in german). The site is also to be used as a plattform for authors who would like to contribute their thoughts on animal philosophy.
