The first three years of architecture school were closer to hell than anything else. A lot of you reading this might relate to the whole “I just don’t get it!” drama, when you feel forced into working on things you do not like or care for. Your grades don’t reflect your interest or passion, you can’t get a damn design finished on time and even worse you hated every stroke of every line you ever sketched. What’s f*****d is that, people around you keep saying the same thing over and over “you’re really good, but you need to focus!” …. BUT HOW?
In general, I was self destructive, addicted to alcohol and was working several jobs to keep myself held up. However, little incidents occurred throughout the end of third year, which helped enhance my “focus” game. I met an awesome girl who helped me find my “true” self, taught me to not give up even if I failed several times in a row and most importantly, taught me to always be myself. However, there was no room for the both of us.
It was when I had started my instagram account that I realized “hey, this social media thing really works huh?” So posting sketches, CG renders and beautiful pictures became a daily habit. People commented, shared, my work was featured in several online blogs and astonishingly enough, I was receiving commissions!
On one of my flights, I met a social media specialist. We discussed how the world has become more connected and readily available on social media. He loved the whole idea of getting work from abroad through sharing photos on facebook and instagram. His enthusiasm was contagious, to say the least.
The more followers I gained, the more it felt like an obligation to post on a daily basis. It was good practice?
As you grow to understand yourself as an architect, many of the stories that inspire us come from our excessive obsession with emotion; we all want to create the space that would convey our own feelings and desires. Which is what I try to do in every piece I put time into; it has to mean something to me, otherwise it’s pointless.
Pardon the long introduction, I have put together some of the CG renders I made recently, and as with anything I create, it has to tell a story. My post work usually focuses on cinematic like environments; color grading, depth of field and lens imperfections. My work is inspired by the likes of Alfred Hitchcock, Quinton Tarantino, Alex Roman and a slew of other artists. I hope you enjoy them and I would love to hear your thoughts.
