My Photos Of Stairs In Abandoned Buildings That I’ve Collected Over The Years
I grew up in the old GDR (German Democratic Republic). After the reunification of Germany, there were a lot of old buildings left behind that I used to explore without a camera. Years later, a friend gave me a gift an old small digicam because he bought himself a new one.
At this time, I fell in love with photographing old buildings. After I made some fails, I bought a tripod and started exploring new level of photography in October, 2011. I mostly photograph empty buildings with great staircases inside. I simply adore old decaying architecture, their patterns and textures – they remind me that everything is impermanent. Staircase photography is my ongoing project and now I travel around Europe looking for abandoned staircases.
I took these pictures with a 5D MK2 and a wide angle lens 16-35 L mm.

This is very sad. One can only imagine how grand these buildings once were. The quality of workmanship tells all. A magic wand is needed.
I Keep coming back for another look. Each time I find something new to ponder. The old pianos stir my imagination, and I can often visualize

The pictures are awesome, the story though is yet to be told, why are these mansions abandoned, who designed the buildings?
With any luck perhaps your photos might inspire someone with imagination and $ to rehab some of these.

Wonderful photos. I wish someone could go through and remove the ones that are not time ruined and recycle them !

I loved the pictures, it's sad to see those building in ruins now. They looked so grand.
Back at my birthplace Holland, I took rolls and rolls of photos of old wooden front doors. Beautiful craftsmanship! Makes nice collage.
Sooo sad to see such incredible architecture and designs...such talents..decaying or being replaced by boring unstimulating quick jobs.
Architecturally stunning. Imagine what this architecture was like when it was new?
