Single-panel cartoons have little room for unnecessary details, making the idea behind the joke more important than the drawing itself. Cartoonist Corinne Katow has built a distinctive style around that principle, combining minimalist black-and-white illustrations with clever wordplay, visual puns, and unexpected twists.

The cartoons find humor in everything from artificial intelligence and healthcare to office life, science, and everyday situations. The result is a collection of concise visual jokes that blend sharp observations with playful absurdity. We've gathered some of our favorites below, scroll down to see how many catch you off guard.

Not how that works; producing something effective enough to go to market earns them WAY more than producing in effective attempt after ineffective attempt. In fact, those successful treatments and cures are the only way they can fund all the necessary trial and error at all. (Sadly, though, RX prices aren't just based on the cost of research, development, testing, and eventually manufacturing; too many companies care too much about generating extra profit for executives and shareholders.)
