Andrian and Ion are two young engineers from Moldova who came up with a bright idea – to build a specific car for people in wheelchairs. Along with a young team they started a project in order to launch a crowdfunding campaign. The AVAI project has the goal to raise funds in order to create and build the first AVAI car for Alex, a 28 years old man who is captured in a wheelchair by his trauma.
When Alex asked them to build a three wheel travel scooter for him, they realized they can do more for him and, at the same time, they can be useful for the entire world. “When someone being in a wheelchair needs such a mean of transport, why can’t we come up with a better idea for all those 65 mil people around the world who have the same need?!”, replied the engineers.
This car is a prototype based on an existing chassis, which is approved and meets all the standards of safety. Also it has an economic engine and an automatic gearbox. What is unique about this concept is the integrated wheelchair lift – a mechanism that lifts up and adapts the driver in front of the steering wheel.
The wheelchair lift concept is, in fact, a mechanical assembly composed of a metal structure and two platforms, which are operated by hydraulic cylinders. Also, all this mechanism is automated using electronic remote control (You can find more details about this car on indiegogo.com: AVAI Car – the most suitable car for wheelchairs).
“Solving Alex’s problem we are offering a solution for anyone else in need”, the project managers confess. The usefulness of this campaign doesn’t stop by solving just Alex’s case. AVAI Car sets long term goals. But they can achieve them only with people’s financial support.
