These High School Gals From The 1960s Would Still Look Great Today
The cultural upheaval of the 1960s in the U.S. gave us some of the greatest fashion trends of the 20th century, and the influences of various subcultures like hippies or disco-goers have extended well into the 21st as well. In 1969, LIFE Magazine decided to photograph the teen fashions that American high schoolers across the country were wearing, which is why we’ve got these brilliant vintage photos to share with you today.
The cultural revolution against the mainstream captured the imagination of an entire era, and people became more liberated – in terms of sexuality, musical taste, and self-expression – than ever before. Short skirts, funky tights, and extravagant shoes flourished, and stylish kids weren’t afraid to show a bit of skin.
Check out these photos for a nostalgic look at the groovy garbs of 70s fashion!

Yeah. I noticed that to. I think that most of these photos were taken from a magazine fashion shoot. I mean, seriously, to set up.

Load More Replies...Everyone looks also mutch slimmer these days. My God, where have they gone.
That's because we got lots of exercise in those days. Fat kids were quite rare in the '60s.
Load More Replies...They look great with little make-up, no tattoos and not very revealing clothes - all look so happy...
A great deal of our clothes were homemade. It was cool then to know how.

If that teacher raises her arm any higher, we will see the 1969 underwear styles!
I had some of these clothes and also made a lot of my own clothes in the 6o's
A Beverly Hills high school is a southern California high school. They didn't name any of the schools.

Magazine fashion shots. Also, does anyone else think that the guy with BH High School girl Erica Farber is a bit old for her and rather creepy? Even she looks nervous.
is it just me, or does the girl in the third photo look like pocahontas in all her outfits?
Girls look great at any decade. Just keep it clean and drug-free and any of them would be fun to date. I still miss the 1950 era girls.
Does anyone else think that these photos look too 'digital' to be from '69? They look like current models dressed 60's style.
Kodak Ektachrome slide film was widely used by professionals and they had great, expensive lenses and lighting.
Load More Replies...What do you mean 'they would still look great today'? Of course they would still look great today! And I guess many do look fine today.
If these are truely from 1969, the year I graduated wow we had some style, and what goes around comes back around!
California must have been much more progressive than Canada. Girls were not allowed to wear pants to school until the '70s here.
I questioned this too somewhere else and was told that Beverly Hills High School relaxed their dress code in the late 60s. Our schools would wait until the late 70s...
Load More Replies...i still wear fringed suede... my moccasin boots....loved the 60s...and the 70s as well...
we were happier....ignorance of the military industrial complex left us blissfully thinking our country had taxation with representation!
Even as a kid, I gagged at all these hideous styles. Apparently, people and "designers" were too high to figure it out.
