Do me a favor. Google ‘most beautiful faces’ and see what you find. Did it scare you as much as it scared me?
What is beauty? What makes someone beautiful? The media sadly still have quite the influence on what is seen as beauty and even the definition of beauty states:
“a combination of qualities, such as shape, colour, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight”
That pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight. The models walking the catwalk during the Victoria’s Secret show surely please the sight, but is that true beauty? Or the expression on the old man’s face when he finds out that his dog digged another hole in his garden? It might not please the aesthetic senses as much as Victoria’s models, but still..
As said by Lexi Herrick at the Huffington Post: Beauty has varied throughout time, various cultures and the vast different perceptions of the world. Beauty has been described and depicted through pictures and concepts penetrating our minds. Beauty has been defined in so many ways. It comes to us in all shapes and sizes. It’s the images and moments that inspire and represent the most distinct and remarkable attractiveness of our souls. In opposite of what the media shows I think true beauty is seen in truth. A reflection of the soul in raw emotions and real situations.
So what you don’t have a size 34 or legs up to heaven. Your eyes are the mirrors of your soul no matter how big, small, straight or crossed. The small lines on your face tell a story no movie can ever capture. The dims in your cheeks show a joy that only you can truely understand.
These 12 portraits capture a glimpse of beauty that you won’t see in any commercial or fashion show. These portraits show you a naked truth and a raw beauty for not just the eye, but the heart.
