There were times when you could pack practically anything into your backpack before coming aboard but nowadays airlines have much stricter limitations on what can be taken to the plane. Of course, weapons are the most obvious to be prohibited. However, there are other items the airport security may consider threatening, and here they are:

1. Snow globe souvenir
Many airlines ban carrying more than 100 ml of liquid, and thus your snow globe may be thrown away if it has more than 100 ml of liquid inside.
2. Cigarette lighters
One lighter is fine but bringing more is forbidden.
3. T-shirt with an offensive print
Be careful with what you wear to the airport because profanities, swearing and indecent pictures on your T-shirt may cause you trouble with the airport security that will ask you to take that off.
4. Food
Both raw and processed food can be confiscated and there may be different views on what is processed. One passenger flying from Poland had to give smoked ham away because the security considered that smoked equals raw.
5. Badminton, squash or tennis rackets
They are considered as potential weapons if you ever take them to your hand luggage.
6. Soup
As with the snow globes, soup is banned because in most cases it is more than 100ml.
7. Balloons
It’s all because of helium that is in the list of dangerous disabling chemicals.
8. Gel sole inserts
And again, such inserts often exceed the 3.4-ounce limit on carry-on liquids.
9. Uncharged gadgets
Dead electronic devices are known to be used to conceal bombs.
10. Fake Goods
Sometimes you may be allowed to leave one of such items if it is for personal use only and you can somehow prove it. More often, you’d be suspected in buying them to re-sell.
