With the naked and floral rustic wedding cakes being a top choice for our clients this season, it was a refreshing experience to break this trend and create a fairy tale themed cake for Rebakah and Kevin. When Rebekah came to our shop last year she requested two cakes, a Barbie doll cake and a princess castle themed cake with a desire to make it as big, and sparkly as possible. She was open to various cake designs and gave us the freedom to experiment which as artists we highly appreciated.

The preparation of the decoration started one week in advance, but the baking and making itself had to be done and finished within 72 hours before the delivery, to make sure that the cakes stayed as fresh as possible. Due to its weight and height the structure of the cake had to be supported by wooden rods and certain elements were attached by wires. The separate Barbie doll cake was influenced by the brides big and beautiful wedding dress.

Cake making can be very technical and it definitely is not what it used to be. With all the recent advances and materials that are now available, cake making is just another form of art where the only restriction is the cake maker’s imagination. With the width of the cake measuring nearly one meter, four meters of fairy lights, over eighteen meters of silver diamante ribbon and a separate area in the shop where the sculptors handled endless amounts of glitter.
