I’ve been recycling old surfboards for artwork. Having created a few boards already, I decided to time lapse my journey for this one.
The artwork features the interior view from a split screen VW Kombi looking out over the surf. I used Posca paint pens for the artwork, using a stippling technique.
I started this project in December 2014, and eventually finished it in late February 2015. The lengthy time span for this piece was due to the tedious nature of stippling, having to set up the camera over and over, and the scale of the artwork which was over 7 foot long! I spent a few hours on it here and there between other projects.
I used an iPhone 5s to record the time lapse, using an app called OSnap. The total length of footage used for this clip tallied in at 61 hours, that was after editing!
Photos were set to 10 second intervals, then once collated, exported into video. More than 22,000 photos were taken in the making.
Final editing and production was done with iMovie.
