Eric Hart, whose four-month-old baby boy Collier has been hospitalized since he was born prematurely with underdeveloped lungs, decided to build him a Iron Man suit for the little fighter’s first Halloween.

He made the Iron Man mask by downloading a paper pattern off the Internet, traced a scaled-down version of the pieces on foam, cut these out into their separate pieces, and then went on to assemble the finished product by hot-gluing these together. The project was rather apt for Hart, whose day job sees him making props for a theatre company.

Making an Iron Man suit carried extra symbolic weight as Tony Stark – like Hart’s son – had to be hooked up to machines so as to be able to live. Baby Collier wore the mask for just a minute. Watching his baby with his costume on felt “pretty great”, said the dad, who hoped especially as it gave him and his wife something to look forward to as the hospital visits became monotonous and exhausting. With hopes that his son can come home soon, Hart said in a TV interview, “Maybe next year we can be a father and son Iron Man team.”
