Scientists Spot A Googly-Eyed Squid, Can’t Stop Laughing At It

This incredibly cute stubby squid with googly eyes has been melting the hearts of YouTubers since last Friday when footage was uploaded by a group of scientists called EVNautilus. What’s even more adorable than its looks is the goofy reaction of the scientists as they just couldn’t stop giggling when they saw the critter.

“It looks so fake,” exclaims one woman. “It’s like some little kid dropped their toy.” Stubby squid, also known as Rossia pacifica, was spotted off the coast of California at a depth of 900 meters. The adorable stubby squid is not a squid, though – it’s more closely related to cuttlefish. “This species spends life on the seafloor, activating a sticky mucus jacket and burrowing into the sediment to camouflage, leaving their eyes poking out to spot prey like shrimp and small fish,” EVNautilus explained.

Laugh now scientists. When the old ones rise, who will be laughing then?

Why are we so sure it's a species rather than an anomaly??

900 meters is almost 3,000 feet, no wonder its eyes are so big! I predict a "Cuddle-fish" toy to hit aquarium gift shops in the near future! <3
