It was a really bad thunderstorm and Dennis McDonald was driving his truck when he saw a supposedly dead cat on the side of a road in British Columbia, Canada. McDonald had a strange feeling that the kitty might still be alive, so he turned back to check on him and discovered that the cat was still breathing.

“I took the length of my arm and put it under [the cat] to support him entirely and managed to get him in the box and back to the truck,” McDonald told The Dodo. The man took the cat to the vet immediately.

The cat was badly injured. His skull was fractured, his nose was collapsed, and his jaw had to be wired shut. He had an ear tattoo that led to her owner but she didn’t take him back. “She was in a place where she couldn’t do anything for him, so she surrendered him to the vet and me,”said McDonald. “That broke my heart into a million little pieces.” He adopted the cat immediately and named him BB-8. The poor kitty had to go through many extensive surgeries but he’s expected to make a full recovery and live a happy life with McDonald’s other 2 rescue cats.
