Ah, memes. Love them or hate them, they've become a staple on the Internet, and serve to connect us all using humor and a healthy dose of ridicule. Not only have memes been raised to an art form, they've literally been turned into art by a few talented individuals, and some of them look surprisingly wall-worthy.
Brooklyn-based illustrator Lauren Kaelin has been turning Internet memes into minimalist oil paintings since 2013, a series she has since dubbed Benjameme. While some of the memes are a bit dated (Antoine Dodson, Gangnam Style), timeless classics like Grumpy Cat and Overly Affectionate Girlfriend are present and accounted for as well. Perhaps memes becoming art is a fitting tribute to the fact that they are, themselves, a modern form of art.
