Nike Launches Its First Plus-Size Line Because “Women Are Stronger, Bolder And More Outspoken Than Ever”

Nike has the world rejoicing left and right after releasing a full line of plus-sized clothing this week. Not XXL t-shirts or extra-baggy sweatpants, but a fabulous range of comfortable, professional active wear.

In a statement given to Refinery29, the company said “Nike recognizes that women are stronger, bolder, and more outspoken than ever. In today’s world, sport is no longer something that she does, it’s who she is.” They’ve elected to celebrate diversity in every sense and promote body positivity, which is something we can all root for.

The line, which is available to buy online as we speak, includes multiple colours of leggings, shorts, and sports bras, running all the way up to size 3X.

Disagree and downvote if you like, but I'm glad they are advocating for heavier women. It's not ONLY athletes that want to wear their products, women who want to lose weight need to be properly supported and there aren't very many options in terms of active wear (and cute activewear) else where. Especially with plus size sports bras, it takes real support to keep them twins from bouncing to and fro. Nike just needs to come down a bit on the price lol

I'd recommend Wacoal for a serious sports bra. I think they go from a 30 C to 42 G. Cheaper than Nike and they make a good product with a more personalize fit.

In response to some of the other comments: "Plus size" is a clothing size not a health assessment. You can be obese and not need plus sized clothing and you can be a healthy weight and still fit plus sizes.

I'll stick with ShockAbsorber bras, they offer great support for big breasts even during high impact sports AND they do actual scientific research into breast movement & required support during various sports. Screw Nike and the rest of those sports brands for having neglected our needs for decades! 🖕🏼 Hurrah for existing brands who have supported us in our athletic endeavours for decades!! ❤

I'm happy that you're happy with what you've got, but let's just celebrate the fact that Nike has opened this new line!

No big company does anything for any other reason than money. They realised that they missed out on a niche market with money and hence bring out this particular range. Don't be naive and think they are doing it because they are caring or find it beautiful etc. Money, money, money. they'd sell swimming trunks for monkeys if they had the cash.

Money is definitely a motivator, but not the sole one. There are brands that market to specific looks, such as Abercrombie and Fitch (the CEO specified that he did not want fat people to wear A&F clothes). I don't know if A&F would sell swim trunks to monkeys, but Nike might be open to meeting the demand.

This is great, but judging from these pictures, this seems to be only meaningful with bras.... Other clothes look unisex anyway. That plain t-shirt and those trainers will look the same if you buy a men's size. Of course, it's still important how they present it on the market, but I expected something less neutral. This way it looks like a deal not as big as it's hyped. My compliments and upvote go for the initiative, however.

I'm all about better selection across sizes but don't kid yourselves, nike doesn't give a s**t about you unless you stand between them and profit

I think this is great but it's line will probably carry a bigger price which upsets me. I need tall sizes for my 38" legs!

At first I thought you had 38 feet long legs. I had to re-read it about five times.
