A mirror you can take selfies with. Gleaming metallic surface of an alien ship. But also a piece of real scientific work. The postmodern visual profile of 51st International Festival Of Science Documentary Films – Academia Film Olomouc (AFO) – combines number of different elements, yet still belongs to the category of effective minimalism. It is a crafty invention of graphic designer Radim Měsíc from Palacký University.
“I have created concept of a mirroring poster, which reflects its surroundings thanks to its unique surface. Every poster somehow reflects the spirit of Olomouc and the festival as well. Only two colours have been used in the poster, then the dominant numeral 51 and, at first glance, abstract outlines. But they are, in fact, contours capturing the actual locations of the festival, the real Area 51,” Měsíc sums up.
For him, the visual identity is a balanced combination of sci-fi, hard science data and unconventional concept of blending certain medium and the surroundings it is situated in at the present moment.
