Birds are warmblooded animals, which means that they maintain their body temperature independent of the environment. However, their often tiny size forces them to adapt, and even work together, when it gets cold outside. New Zealand Birds describes this behavior in one species, the fantail:

“They huddle together in such roosts for warmth, the most dominant birds taking the center positions, forcing the immature and more subordinate to the edges where they are at the mercy of the elements.”

This list is our collection of the cutest bird-cuddling photos. Do you have any photos of this adorable behavior? Post them below, or vote on your favorite!

Aw, that's so cute... Hope the father could rest a little before they ask for more attention.

Yup it's winter to them: native to Australia, New Zealand and the south-west Pacific islands

Too sad they are in jail. Set them free where they belong. :( It bothers me to see birds in cages.
