I am treading into the hyper sensitive area of the picture perfect lives we see splashed across our social media every day. I am a blogger on Bigbrowsmessyhair.com and I have created scenarios to show just how easy it is to manipulate a photo. No ones life is as perfect as their Instagram feed,yet we are a generation that continues to compare ourselves leaving us to feel inadequate about our own life. When we see an Instagram photo- we are only seeing a very small portion of that person life. So what goes into getting that sought after “perfect Instagram shot?”
My aim is to share a healthier approach to social media and a little giggle as to what lengths we go to aiming for perfection.

The picture on the left is the obligatory perfect cappuccino flat lay photo. While the photo on the right tells a different story. Behide every perfect flat lay is a person standing on a chair getting weird looks from everybody else. Did I drink my coffe outside? Eh…. No its November in Ireland need I say more. It was freezing and rainy! I brought it outside for better lighting.By the time I was finished giving my cappuccino its mini photo shoot – it was gone cold! #bloggerproblems
The picture on the right is capationed ” I like people who smile when it is raining” While the photo on the left shows a much more raw and unfiltered photo. The reality is this photo was taken walking back to the car in the rain. I was definitely not smiling in the rain! As soon as I got back to my car I changed into a pair of skinny jeans. ” Enjoy Instagram for its creativity but always take it with a grain of salt”
In this image I am proving just how easy it is to fake the perfect Instagram photo. We can choose to use Instagram to make our lives seem more exciting and amazing then what they really are. We are setting unrealistic standards for even ourselves to keep up with. With carefully cropping and choosing the right filter we can easily make the most ordinary situations seem extraordinary and remarkable.
