The church of Our Lady of Kazan belongs to Old Believers. The Old Believers are the dissident community of Russian Christians who refused to adapt the modernisation efforts of Czar Peter the Great in 1741, which led to a schism from the Russian Orthodox church.

There are about half a million members of the Old Believers’ community in Russia, according to the Patriarchate of the mainstream Orthodox Church. I took few pictures during the service dedicated to Assumption of the Our Lady celebrations.
