With dreams of being an art curator, I married my love of writing with my love of art and came up with the concept for Crows on Heartstrings.
Crows on Heartstrings features 13 harrowing tales of doomed love. Each story is perfectly matched up with an artist to illustrate it.
We feature short stories, poems, screenplays adapted for fiction, and two fully colored comics.
With artists and writers from 8 countries, across 3 continents, we have culturally diverse stories of love, sadness, despair, and life. No type of love is discriminated against in this anthology. For most of our artists and writers, this book is the first time they’re being published in print. Being a self published book, we really need your help to get this book off the ground.
When it comes to theme, I wanted to curate a book more than just about love. Love was the central theme, sure, doomed love. But, when curating this book, I looked for brand new worlds I could see myself in, carnivals, or urban fantasies where elves and faeries walk among us. We have stories of slavic witches, and death disguised as girls in Russia. All these tales are layered with mysticism and a real sense that this doomed love is profound. These star-crossed lovers really meant something in context to their worlds. These characters are so…. real. This book is so much more than just love stories.
Alfred Hitchcock once said that the best way to create tension is to place a bomb under the table. Well here it is. I am warning you. All of these stories end in tragedy. It’s going to be a battle to not fall in love with this book.
