I was introduced to the band Neurosis in probably somewhere around 1994, right about the time that I was finishing up High School. Having been brought up on a pretty traditional heavy metal diet, the post-metal/hardcore scene was like breathing a whole new kind of oxygen. It took a lot of influence from the things that I grew up loving, but added all new levels of inclusion and acceptance. I was truly amazed by the open arms that accepted me in to the fold of this scene. I remember being blown away by the artistic nuances of seeing Neurosis live, the visuals alone on the Through Silver In Blood tour were reason enough to love this band. There was a sample in the beginning of the song ‘Lost’ from the album Enemy of the sun.

“Because we don’t know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you can’t even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more, perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless.”

The quote is from Paul Bowles book The Sheltering sky, a novel about the alienation he felt as an expatriate living in Morocco .

I’m a full time traveling photographer and dedicated my work from January to this quote and learning to live in the moment and make the best of my limited time on this planet. Thanks for looking.
