Temperatures In Arizona Are So High Right Now That People Are Posting Pics Of Things Melting
The temperature in Pheonix has almost reached a record-breaking 122 °F (50 °C) recorded on June 26, 1990, and it's becoming harder and harder to escape the insane heat. The flights are being cancelled, and things are literally melting.
Today it's up to 116 °F (47 °C), and 168 °F (76°C) on the concrete. To illustrate just how bad the situation is we have collected some shocking images of things melting in Arizona.
Do you live there? Tells us how you deal with such high temperatures.

My Neighbors Put Up This Fake Rock Plastic Wall Over The Winter. It's Slowly Melting Away In The Heat
Fake rock plastic wall...in a dessert climate zone. Well...challenge accepted, challenge lost...
i think that would be desert, a dessert can be quite cool :)
Load More Replies...There appear to be scorch marks along the ground and grass where the fence is melted. Most likely caused by one of those propane powered, flame throwers used for killing weeds. Either an accident or act of vandalism.
More than likely an alley fire, not the sun/heat. If it were the sun, why only that part of the wall? Look at the ground damage as well.
I call BS. I live in Phoenix and this plastic rock wall stuff is all over the place. It doesn't melt in the sun....
BS. Notice how the ground is darker in front of the melted part and it's only one small section of wall. The was some kind of fire, car or grass.
ABS plastic has a melting point of 40°C or 104°F (Really, it's more of a molding point, but either way it gets soft and starts to lose it's shape, like so) Especially if in direct sunlight for several hours.
Load More Replies...Polyethylene melts at 280 degrees, not at 120. If this were caused by heat, all the panels will be melted, not just the five that are in front of the scorch marks on the grass and on the road where the car caught fire in front of it. Nice try, but this photo is FAKE NEWS to make you feel like it is hot.
This picture is false. I live 4 houses down from this home and there is no smaller wall that is melting.
b******t, why only melting there, this was melted by a fire of some sort, probably a vehicle fire.
It was probably overheated due to reflective siding or a large window on the adjacent building. This kind of thing happens to vinyl siding here in the midwest if something focuses the sun a bit.

I know right?!? Isn't it the only thing that matters?
Load More Replies...If it was pissing it down with rain all the time you would still be moaning, think yourself lucky you don't live in the UK as you can get all four seasons in one day at ANY time of the year.
Check out last week's Las Vegas Weather underground. 117 F. and I think it was even hotter. It's cooled down this week to between 103 and 108 F. We're almost always higher than Arizona.
And to think that we were complaining about a mere 35°C (95 F) over here in Europe.
It says it begins at 4:09 PM. Never shows anything before that. Unless you are referring to 4:27 PM looking like a 1. Also, "then it does" should say "than it does".

The spirit of true Trump supporter. Who needs to fight man-caused climate change, think instead about all the wonderful possibilities :)
I burnt my hand on my steering wheel last week, and I live in the U.K.! We really have had crazy temperatures this year, I think this oven gloves idea is a great one :)
Las Vegan here; dealing with the same weather. The worst part is knowing that things won't significantly improve until late September.
Have to do this in Australia sometimes too, those steering wheels get so extremely hot!
This is absolutely true- I live in Tucson, and the past few days we have simply stayed in the house until 8 pm
When It's So Hot In Phoenix, Even The Street Signs Are Melting
Yeah... not melting; peeling. Some brilliant civil servant thought it would be a good idea to make street signs with vinyl graphics, just like you'd have a custom window sticker made. The heat IS responsible for degrading the adhesive and the vinyl, but it's not melting, it's just flaking off.
Nope, sorry, that was debunked http://www.12news.com/opinion/talker/is-the-phoenix-heat-causing-street-signs-to-melt/451584662
Puppy Feet Are Frying
Why are you down voted? It IS important to think of your pets.
Load More Replies...I'm having such a hard time teaching my puppy to stop pulling because he just wants to bolt to the next shady spot.
This is my last summer here because of the weather. My poor boxer who's VERY athletic walks at 5am with me, pays and does nothing until 9pm then gets sick from the heat when we play hours after dark.
It must be a nightmare to have a dog in that heat. How do you take them out?? They'll burn their paws, but most doggyboots are just plastic, so no real protection either. And stayng indoors all day must drive most of them crazy.
If we haven't left the house by 6:30 am, it's a no go on walks. I put my bare feet on the road. If it's too hot for me, it is for them too.

Oh it's a mailbox? I thought it was the white house reply on the climate change debate
Degraded service life for public infrastructure .... premature destruction.
Took Advantage Of The Heat In Scottsdale And Baked Cookies In The Car
no one who has ever experienced such heat would ever say that lol. I experienced this and it was the worst day of my life. I could eat I couldn't sleep, I could do anything. The only thing I did was lay down on the bathroom floor because the tiles were cool. In fact, it was so awful that I made my parents go back home (we were visiting relatives) just one day after arriving because I felt physically ill due to the hot weather. Yeah, no. Be happy with the weather you got, trust me.

And still there are nimwits saying "there is no climate change"..... Some even claim its getting colder.... We are all doomed
Climate changes hotter amd colder through thousands of years. Right now is a warming faze. We as humans have not been here long enough to have fully experienced the planet at its warmest. Just the coldest at the ice age. Our machinery and pollution is for sure making our warming faze much worse and more dangerous.

There's not enough moisture inside the cactus to support the weight of the "skin", that's why it looks like a deflated balloon. Still though. A dried up cactus is hard to achieve.
Oh for cripes sake, we here in NV. especially in Green Valley (Henderson) are at 117 regularly now so we are lucky if the pavement doesn't melt beneath our feet.
Lived in AZ for 30+ years.. not all these photos are real lol.. our trash bins don't melt
Airplanes Can't Fly Because It's Too Hot
Air is a fluid, and it's density fluctuates with temperature. The higher the temperature is, lower the air density.
Load More Replies...Those temperatures are common in Middle East countries. Never heard of them cancelling flights because of that.
It all comes down to the fuel systems, just like trucks their diesel engines don't like hot air, and just like me I cannot stand heat above 15 degrees C, live in the UK.
That's not true at all, jet turbine engines have to actually heat the air up very high before to fuel is even injected, this is done with compression to around 200c

I guess the good thing is that it's a Dry Heat,,,, what are all the snowbirds chirping about now that winter is over
Snowbirds are those who live in the southwest in the winter and return to the north during summer. They're even here right now.

It's So Hot In Phoenix, The New @jasonisbell Record Was Delivered Today And Sat In The Mailbox For Only An Hour, And Got This Badly Warped 😕
Kudos to you for appreciating the sound of vinyl! Hope you can get that replaced.
You never heard of the unofficial creed, "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds"
Load More Replies...Yeah... you don't order certain things through USPS this time of year. My aunt sent us a box of chocolates by regular mail. It was messy.
When tapes existed, those could NOT be left in the car either. Crayons (obviously) were a disaster.
Its vinyl... this sucks, but it would also happen in Seattle. It sat an hour in your mailbox but was driven around in an unairconditioned truck all day.
just sit it back outside on a flat surface for a few mins....what can you lose
I've warped records in the middle of winter in Florida in a matter of 15 minutes. Vinyl is a very soft material, and can melt at relatively low temps.
The beauty of vinyl the experience is all the pops and hisses and warped discs
it's not that bad, i think it can still be rescued by reverse baking
I live in Dubai where temperatures easily reach 50 degrees Celsius. I've never seen anything melt like that
Zena, Dubai is at sea level, and Phoenix Arizona is 1,086 ft (331 m) higher, which means it has a less normal dense atmosphere. The denser the atmosphere, the more light is reflected back into space. In Phoenix morning and afternoon light can be more easily 'refracted', or concentrated by the sun's rays. This is less a problem at sea level where the atmosphere is denser. You can accomplish the same thing by using an automobile's glass, or a magnifying glass.
Load More Replies...Phoenix is a very big city, lots of concrete and asphalt that soaks up the heat. As a southern neighbor of Phoenix, we are usually a little cooler in temps, but still have had our share of very hot days. We learn to adjust to the heat by staying indoors and running our air conditioners when we absolutely have to. I can handle the heat up to 100 degrees, anything over 100 feels like an oven when you first open the door.
And never leave lipstick or anything you value in your car because it will melt or otherwise be destroyed.
Load More Replies...As an Arizona native we were tough to respect the heat. after all we live in a desert. What fool would install plastic outside in this environment? 40 years ago we hit 134 and all the streets melted, auto tires were exploding, and yes even the biggest jet planes could not fly.
Woah! That's crazy. I bet a lot of people are cooking things in their cars--or eating salad! I hope there are centres open for people to keep cool.
Wow, this is a total eye opener! Thanks to all for sharing - stay safe!
I'm in Mesa, AZ and I tell ya this time of year I am sooooo thankful that A/C exists. It's hell on electrical bill but that and plenty of water for me and my cat and we're alright.
I live in Saudi and I thought we had it the hottest! It's 41 and I can't step a foot outside! But seems like Arizona is even hotter.
The mailbox looks like it didn't melt completely, just weaken and the bending moment caused by the mailbox caused the bend we see. I don't think the garbage can was due to just the 50C temps. The melting is too localized for that. Perhaps a mirror or something was intensifying the heat. Another possibility (the one I am inclined to believe) is that someone put something burning inside. I'd also expect some of the items, particularly the juice box and beer case, to exhibit some damage.
Yes, But if their was a fire, You would see black charring around it !!
