A few years ago, when we were about to have another baby, my husband and I decided to build a huge family bed.

At that time we already had some experiences with co-sleeping because our son used to crawl into our bed at the middle of the night. He usually slept in right angles to us and sometimes even rotated like the hands of a clock. So we decided to enlarge our bed from 180cm (ca. 71”) to 300cm (ca. 118”).

The biggest challenge was building and upholstering the massive headboard with its 53 buttons. It took us half a week and a lot of swearing to accomplish our project. Looking back, building this bed was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. We all got more sleep during our baby’s first year, especially me because I didn’t have to get out of bed for breastfeeding. Generally I think it’s just wonderful to have all your loved ones around.
