Ever wanted a caffeinated beverage that looks as misanthropic as you feel? Then you're in luck, because the Goth latte is here. It's made from the crushed souls of dead unicorn lattes and it's just as dark as your cold dead heart.
OK, so that's not totally true. They're actually made from activated charcoal, an ingredient that's a lot healthier than it sounds (or looks for that matter). Charcoal is thought to help rid the body of unwanted substances because toxins get trapped in its millions of tiny pores, so even though the Goth latte looks like something only the devil would drink, it might in fact be kind of good for you if consumed in the right quantity (just don't tell anybody). They've so far appeared in cafes in the UK and Australia, but we're sure it's only a matter of time before they arrive at your local coffee shop. Would you drink one? What's the flavor? If it's dark chocolate I'll drink it. If it's something nasty like almond like the black ice cream - forget it! I'd rather starve then eat/drink anything almond flavored!

This is just a black & white photo. Look at the table. Wood grain is not black and white.

For those wondering, charcoal just tastes smokey. Ever smelled smoke from a wooden fire? Now imagine it on your taste buds! It's an acquired taste, but it isn't a new one. I like gunpowder tea, which is very smokey.

Activated charcoal is used to purge the stomachs of people who have overdosed on anything oral in emergency rooms (pills, alcohol, etc. (At least in the U.S.)) I'm not quite sure how it would work in small doses that seem to be meant to pass through the system. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. It's a neat theory, though. Honestly, I hope it's a good thing.

So, are these the "See you in nine months" lattes? Activated Charcoal and birth control are not a good combination. Same for anti depressants, heart meds. Pfft.

I think it's great to try new tastes and brands. Why do you guys call it "sheepish"? Everything you've ever tried was once new and exotic. Charcoal is even healthy in certain doses. Black coffee, blue lemonade, red chocolate - sometimes rare is tasty.

I can't believe that drinking activated charcoal is going to be "a thing", just because it's black. Are we that stupid really?! Why don't we go further than, and explore chemistry to see what else would be probably interesting to see, and decide that's "healthy". Stupidity level pro. I can't explain in English how wrong is this idea.
