Car Crash Survivor Turns Her Back Brace Into Steampunk Armor
Maddie had to wear a back brace after her T12 vertebrae was fractured in a car accident. Thankfully, family friend and theatre group member Sarah helped turn the back brace into a piece of steampunk armor.
“My daughter didn’t like the brace she had to wear after surgery, so a friend helped her steampunk it,” mom Linda C. told EPBpt. “Best part, now folks are intrigued, and come up and ask why she has to wear it rather than just staring.”

Good idea. There's no reason that medical stuff needs to look like medical stuff.
My cousin microfractured his T11-L3 vertebrae, femur and patella and has to wear a brace too. He turned it into a stormtrooper outfit!
I saw a similar thing where some guys were turning prosthetic hands for kids into iron man armor and other super hero gear. It was pretty cool.
How to turn "Eeew, what's wrong with you?" into "Where can I get one?" You rock girl, steampunk or no!
Ok, she doesn't like wearing a brace for 3 months tops?? I have to wear my scoliosis brace brace for the next 2 years. I think she can deal. But great idea!
