10-Year-Old Boy Invents A Genius Device To Stop Children Dying In Hot Cars After His Neighbor’s Death
According to statistics, since 1998 around 712 children are thought to have died from heatstroke in the US alone after being left in hot vehicles. But thanks to one bright 10-year-old boy called Bishop Curry from McKinney, Texas, tragic and preventable deaths like these could soon be a thing of the past.
The fifth grader has invented something called the Oasis, a clever little gadget that monitors the temperature inside the car. Once it gets to a certain level, the device emits cool air while simultaneously alerting parents and authorities via an antenna. The idea for the Oasis came to Bishop after he learned that his neighbour’s 6-month-old infant had died from being in an overheated car, and although he only has a 3-D clay model of the device at the moment, he and his father have so far managed to raise over $24,000 for their invention on GoFundMe. The money will go towards manufacturing the device as well as securing the patent for it, so if you haven’t already, head on over to their fundraising page and help to bring this brilliant project to life.

One of them, sadly, was a 6-month-old infant who lived next door to 10-year-old Bishop Curry
After learning about it, the boy decided he could prevent this, and created a device called Oasis
The Oasis monitors the temperature of the car and emits cool air when the vehicle gets too hot
The clever device will also use an antenna to alert parents and authorities

The problem is bad parenting.... You can never substitute that with a tool.
Even the best parents make mistakes. Ones they have to live with for a lifetime. There but for the grace of god go I (and I'm not religious)
Load More Replies...Sorry...that's a dumb comment / argument to make. You don't leave your kids locked in a car on a hot day. And that's that.
if you leave your baby in a car, you shouldn't be a parent. period. stop making excuses for your stupid a*s.
Good parents make mistakes/ but they do not leave their children in cars..... thats just out of the question
Sorry Michelle, but even if you exhausted, even if you had an argument and never, never!!!! Drive after a night of heavy drinking, you just don't forget a kid in the car. As I don't forget to feed my dog and cat even when I have the worst hangover, you just don't forget about a kid. It's not like an item what you have forgotten to buy " oops I didn't buy the yogurt, doesn't matter ". It's a kid, a living thing and I can't see any good reason to leave a kid alone in a car ( not even at spring time). Ok the only good reason if you want to protect the kid but it's another topic
You know What Michelle Bissenden That's an excuse!! I along with a lot of other parents whether tired or whatever excuse you can think of Don't & I repeat Don't leave a child in a hot vehicle for any reason! I'm sorry but it doesn't mean we are perfect but call it whatever you want, it means we have sense enough to know when we place a child in a vehicle!! Maybe you don't but I would never leave a child or pet in a vehicle alone for any reason!! I have raised 4 children & have grandchildren & great grandchildren I work 3 jobs & still never once left any children in a hot vehicle & it doesn't mean I'm perfect!! It means I care about my children & have sense enough to know leaving a child unattended in a vehicle is just plain stupid & I also have know when I put a child in the vehicle that guess what, I know the child is there. So for the excuses of I forgot the kid is there while you go shopping is exactly just that an EXCUSE!! Nothing to do with being perfect!!
We're perfectly aware that it's horrific and unthinkable. We're just not idiots who think they know it all and condemn all cases where children have died in cars as all being the same reason. You know, like you don't have one murder charge that covers all people who kill whether intentionally, by accident, in self defence, by negligence etc. it's called being s human being and not a flaming torch carrying Neanderthal. Round of applause for anyone who has never got into a car tired, upset, the morning after a nights drinking, following an argument with someone. Because you're all perfect.
And I love how about half the people commenting here aren't parents. I am a parent (all adults now) and I never did this either. But I understand exactly how it happens. Millions of parents across the country are taking steps to make sure this doesn't happen to them. This tells me that I am not alone.
Amen. "Judge not..." I understand the anger and urge to condemn, but Empathy and horror are more appropriate, I think. That parent (in cases when it is a parent & child)--actually, anyone who has done such a terrible thing- as you said, will never be able to escape their grief and guilt. It is far better to grieve and try to prevent more instances than condemn and cry for death for punishment.
My own father used to work 3 jobs and got forgetful because of it. He took me to daycare one day but didn't actually take me out of the car. He thought he did though because it was part of his routine. He proceeded to drive to work with me in the back seat. He realised what he'd done, freaked out and looked in the back mirror to see me there and got in a wreck because of the distraction. Exhaustion is worse than being drunk. myth busters proved it.
Leaving your baby in a hot car is NOT, I repeat NOT a "mistake", it is negligence and there is NO excuse for it!
How do you forget your child?l? I have forgotten where I parked, or even what vehicle we drove. I have forgotten to pack extra diapers or to pick up milk. But not once did I ever forget that I had 1 or all 3 of the kids with me. Quite the contrary in fact. I once drove for over 150Km (94 miles) not only listening to, but singing along with, The Wiggles, Raphie, and the like before realising I was alone in the car.
Usually in these cases it is unintentional. Parents not having enough sleep, change in schedule (don't normally have the baby at that time) distracted by their other children... also judge all you want, but wouldn't it be better to have a safeguard rather than have a child die.
Many of these cases are accidents. They absolutely destroy the lives of everyone involved.
Olga, it's not an "accident" like accidentally kicking over a bucket. It's that the parents (not all, some are just plain idiots) are completely certain that they dropped the kid off in daycare, or are 100% certain that the kid was with the other parent. In that regard, it's "accident" in the same way that you 'forget' to close the door to the yard, or leave the stove on before going on Holiday. People are convinced that they locked it/switched it off. So for all the parents who had this happen, I feel deep regret. Of course they are to blame in the sense that there is really no-one else who is at fault. And those idiots that leave their kid in the car fully aware and go partying ... well. I just hope they won't reproduce again.
how can you leave your baby anywhere by accident? are you kidding me?
I'd say it's about as unintentional as me "accidentally" stabbing someone in the heart 4 times. Maybe we should make a tool that warns me after the second stab that she or he might die. Better safe than sorry right? See how stupid this sounds? You cannot blame everything on outside sources. There is a line where things are just plain YOUR responsibility. And leaving a kid in a car is definitely yours. If you can't do that you shouldn't get a child.
America is very strange country. At first I was shocked about your judgement of bad parenting. Than I have realised that it's probably common to leave a baby like this for some people in America. There is not one person in Slovakia who would have left a child in a car in hot weather alone willingly not for one minute. Two years ago one baby died left in the car for hours in the summer but it happened because of terrible accident and his father didn't have the slightest intention to leave the kid there (all the circumstances went together because he didn't usually take the kid to kindergarden and the baby was never behind the driver just that morning it happened in a way the baby was behind the driver it was sleeping they were all in a hurry and the poor father thought that the baby is safe in the kindergarden (yes your mind can do this to you when you are under stress). He is now dead he committed suicide because he just couldn't bear the guilt
This is what happens in most cases here in the US, but as you can tell from several of these comments...so many people are quick to judge and label them "bad parents" who should have known better. The vast majority of these accidents happen when there is a change in the parent or child's schedule, for example one parent usually takes the child and for some reason the other parent has to when they're not used to. They just automatically drive to work like normal and get out without thinking, when you've driven the same way for 10 years it becomes habit..it's awful and terrible, but it happens.
During his trial at court everybody was crying and the poor dad was just broken
Maria and Sal, it seems you don't have eyes or something or you can't read. Both of your links are reffering to exactly the case I was talking about. AND I said nobody would have left the baby in a car BY CHOICE. And yes I was generalising the american people because I was schocked with realisation you have people there who are doing this by choice.
Okay even if it is bad parenting, shouldn't the life of the kid come first? So what if you never ever leave them in the car. Even on the slightest chance that someone did(since it obviously happens), it is in the best interest of the child, not the parents pride, to have the tool in there.
The really frightening thing is that the very parents who swear this could never happen to them are in the greatest danger of making this terrible mistake.
That is true, but I would rather deal with the parent later and make sure that my child is safe. Id still buy this just because parents are humans too. They make mistakes
Even if this doesn't work out well, I see better things down the road. He really is a genius. His home made trebuchet, and his mastery of English, at his young age, tend to set him apart.
He has a good heart and means well. I hope he never stops caring to find ways to make our world better and safer.
Load More Replies...Hmm, there's no information about how it would create cold air and something that small doesn't look like it could do that to any significant degree. It's a bit odd to report this without this important information.
That's what I thought. Like, anyone can come up with an idea, but it takes a genius to make it WORK.
Exactly! It just looks like a hollow plastic box. How this can cool some air or how it can attract somebody outside of car???
no s**t. See how the reporters kinda fought for the lead too? Made up ratings s**t
NO ONE could make this thing shoot out cold air. Scientifically impossible. If they are raising money for this project it's a scam.
