Unhappy people are all around us. Happiness is something we all wish to have in our daily lives. As human beings we can all accept the facts that life is short and by being unhappy the life we’re leading while being in that state will be really difficult. Our habits have a big impact on the quality of our life and if we live it in the right way, we will be happy.

Important to note, there is a strong difference between depression and chronic unhappiness. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain, while being unhappy is often acquired how we choose to live our lives. Unhappy people can also be diagnosed and treated.

1. COMPLAINING TOO MUCH

Happy people don’t complain too much and they’re happy what with they have. On the other hand there are people that complain too much. They seem to always have something negative to say even if a lot of happy people are around them. These are so called energy vampires and you should stay away from them. Instead of complaining and seeking for negative things in life, you should seek solutions to your problems that are causing you to complain a lot. We are all people and having too much negativity around can only lead to bad things happening.

2. BEING TOO CRITICAL

Having a good self-worth is important and how we talk to ourselves shapes our whole image. Many people give themselves a bad time when they do something wrong and they start to get too critical of themselves. Having a good self-worth is an important essential of our general happiness, and if we feel good about ourselves and the things we do, we will have all. Be aware of your mistakes and accept them. If you engage in a negative self-talk you will instantly go into a circle of negativity that will end up bad.

3. LIVING BEYOND MEANS

We live in a materialistic world where we’re constantly bombarded by many advertisements that promise a fulfilling existence to everyone. You should not believe in that. Purchasing a new product can get you an emotional boost but it doesn’t last forever. For this reason, look for things in life that will genuinely make you happy. You can exercise, read go sightseeing etc. These things will bring you satisfaction without a debt.

4. VARIOUS ADDICTIONS

A lot of things are good for happiness if they are in the right amounts. Food, drinking or simple entertainment are some examples. The main problem is when one of those things becomes a centre of our attention. Many people have met their end because of their addictive habits, especially if they were addicted to drugs or alcohol. The best way to stay away from addictions and to step away from the negativity is to find our passions in life. That will enable us to find our true selves and will bring us some balance in life.

5. LIVING AND REGRETTING THE PAST

Regret can be extremely harmful. Living in the past and regretting various things while not moving forward can be really bad. Negative thoughts and decisions that we made in the past can often lead to anxiety and depression. According to Psychology Today, there are four ways to cope with regret:

(1.) Learn from mistakes but don’t dwell,
(2.) If nothing can be changed about the situation to let it go.
(3.) Make sure too much blame is not being undertaken, and
(4.) Reframing the situation more positively.

6. WORRYING TOO MUCH ABOUT THE FUTURE

We really can’t predict the future and worrying about it is just useless. This is not meant to disempower, it is just stating the truth. All we can do is live in the present and in the moment. While enjoying completely what our life is offering us in the moment there is a high chance we won’t be categorized as unhappy people. Enjoy the small and beautiful things in life while you experience them fully with no regrets.

7. HAVING CONSTANT FEAR

Having constant fear in our life has a big connection to unhappy people. If we’re able to understand this, we have to go back to being present. Don’t allow yourself to be feared of something unknown. You will ruin your quality of life and you will never be certain in your decisions. Fear is often a process that is on auto-pilot and sometimes it is normal.

8. GOSSIP

Unhappy people tend to have insecurities and sometimes they have negative small talk about people around them. Ask yourself the question: “Why would a happy person engage in something that has no benefit at all?”. The answer is simple, a happy person would never engage in that. Gossip is something that is left to little kids, not adults that are attempting to make their lives better by gossiping about others.

9. HOLDING GRUDGES

Similar to other negative emotions, animosity is sometimes a weight on our backs. We are often a witness of someone else’s negative behaviour and we can become angered as a result of that. It is important to remember that it’s not about the ignorant behaviour of other people. The only thing that is important is your happiness. Smartest thing you can do is forgive, forget or ignore..and move on with your life. Simple as that.

10. EXPANDING OUR PROBLEMS

When we experience something bad in our lives, our first reaction will be almost entirely emotional. Sometimes we blow things out of proportion and we tend to make our problems even bigger than they actually were. A smart thing you can do in this situation is to always take a step back. Look at the problem with minimal emotions included and focus on finding the solution!
