Believe it or not, this is a real place – Wat Rong Khun, better known as the White Temple, is a Buddhist temple in Thailand that looks like it was placed on earth by a god.
Though it may have involved divine inspiration, it was in fact designed by a man. Chalermchai Kositpipat, a Thai artist, designed the temple in 1997. It was almost destroyed by an earthquake in May of this year, but Kositpipat was inspired to rebuild the temple after an outpouring of international support urging him not to give up and let the temple crumble.
Admission to many of the buildings has been forbidden until certain structural cracks are repaired, but visitors can still photograph the temples from the outside.

I think because it is white, most assume it pure & somehow related to Heaven ? Look at it once more & imagine it black & red ? It looks evil
Agree. Those hands reaching up from below, evil.
Load More Replies...Did anyone else notice the one single splotch of red, from that hand giving us the middle finger?
I did. Either a photoshop, or artist's prank, or a particularly mischievous monk? :)
Load More Replies...I have been there and it still looks better in real life, because every part of the buildings is shining in the sun. It's awsome!
Beautiful Temple, there is also an Art Gallery .. spent 4 hours there, wonderful experience... completely free...
and cool, mesmerizing, amazingly beautifull and ugly at the same time. Amazing work of art, for sure!
Load More Replies...I agree with AnishDivakaran. And who says it must be deemed "heavenly" or "hellish".
look at 7th picture of of hands begging, one of then is holding up a middle finger with red finger nail polish on...lol .
I would like invite you all to visit there, We called there "Wat Rong Khun" It was designed by Thai visual artist.
the outside of the temple isn't really my taste (creepy with the hands), the inside is amazing: cartoon heroes are hidden in the murals! : )
I live 10 minutes drive from this temple :-) Its beautiful, but its right by the roadside too, which is a little disappointing :-(
it could be lost souls reaching upwards apart from the devil carving, it looks like the one at the beginning of excorsist film x
as far as artwork this is a masterpiece gorgeous with many hidden secrets. But the hands do not seem evil. More as if begging for help
This is the very close to what I imagined R'lyeh temples look like.
☀ He inflicted on me. If people don't forgive, they will never have peace and can never move forward. www.wikipages.com
totally cool a little creepy.I didn't think that people took the time to make such beautiful temples any more .
It's really amazing....but when you observe carefully the détails, it looks like a frozen nightmare!
Hands reaching from underground are evils. When you do good things like going to temple, praying, they would come and ask for your merit.
I think it's all extraordinary work, if you look past the evil frightening statues.
This temple = amazing. One of my favorite places ever! Here's my pics from there: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.33847470295876
If you look for evil you'll see evil, look for beauty you'll see beauty.I see beauty.
If you look for evil you'll see evil, look for beauty and you'll see beauty.
Bloody hell, BLOODY HELL!!! Fantastic Vision the master architect, celestial conversations must have been abundant.
Curious as to the meaning of white in Thailand: in other countries, isn't white the color of mourning? Also, the hands seem to be pleading.
The temples marvelous and symbolical - Don't say it's evil looking just because you don't know what it represents. Google before speaking.
The temple represents the symbols of Buddism: color=purity of the lord buddha, the bridge=crossing from earthly life to true enlightenment..
The temple has been inspired by 3 elements: 1) Love of the country (Thailand) 2) Religion (Buddism) and Thailand's monarch
Slightly creepy evil with the hands reaching out of the ground for help like they've been cast to hell
its the containment of evil, which means BAD A*S M**O'S, and stronger than evil, but good.
This is creepy evil makes me think of the white witch in Narnia, I wonder if CS Lewis knew about it?
There are many temples like this in Thailand, simply an exorbitant show of wealth. Pity you cant see the children begging outside the gates.
The stuff nightmares are made of...Anyone else notice the hand with the red fingernail in the 5th frame?
For those who apresihate the true art of craftsmenship. Absolutely stunning !!
Due to the earthquake earlier this year, some major parts of it were cracked and the artist who built this said that they couldn't be fixed.
Impressive work - though nothing remotely heavenly about this place.
Check when Taj Mahal where built :D White Temple build 1997 as the description says :)
Load More Replies...Wow doesn't even begin to describe it! This would be so awesome to see in person.
What a beautiful work of the human mind and hand. The intricacies are so pristine. It truly does look like something that fell from Heaven.
