Student’s Faucet Design Saves Water By Swirling It Into Beautiful Patterns
584Kviews
Simin Qiu, a design student in London’s Royal College of Art, has come up with a luxurious-looking Swirl Faucet that will save water by turning it into a beautiful, elegant, swirling spiral.
Qiu’s design works by sending the water through a double turbine, which spirals as water moves through it, creating an elaborate and beautiful lattice of water streams. The turbine also limits the flow of water by 15%, meaning that you waste less when using it! 3 different nozzles let users choose which water-saving design they’d rather use.
The design, which also won an iF Design concept award in 2014, is operated with a touch button on top, which helps it retain its sleek and elegant look.

It'd be nice if there was a video of this in action!
These are not. I repeat, THESE ARE NOT pictures of a working model.
What are you saying? You want him to do more complicated stuff?!
Water saving? Really? Now people are going to spend more water just to see the pattern.
And make home show for friends! ;)
If we all had it there would be no need to show our friends and we would save water. I believe that was the concept.
Wow! Elegant, beautiful and stunning!!! And it saves water too! A plus for the environment!
How can there not be one comment about how this is impossible? this DEFIES PHYSICS
it isn't spinning the water- instead its 'stacking' the water to create the look. the water is only falling, while the nozzle spins.
Saahil: No, it doesn't need 0 horizontal velocity. It's easy to do though by angling the nozzle. H. velocity would make it diverge a bit.
To 'stack' the water, it should have 0 horizontal velocity, how does it 'loose' the spinning nozzle's velocity vector?
Because most of us don't know anything about physics?
This is very possible, the water is simply falling while the nozzle is rotating. Get a hose and turn it on while circling the hose. U'l see
I'm thinking of the engineering behind it. Scale buildup would freeze it rather quickly. Or the tiniest bit of factory contamination.
I'd love to keep it as a unique show piece...haha But seriously awesome design that saves water...
Where can I get some!
POWERED BY JESUS
I doubt if it is going to save water because it is so beautifull to look at that you leave the tap running longer to look at it
I would make it on a loop, like a fountain.
Dear everyone on social media: "Design concepts" are not real. They exist only in students' imaginations. Water does not behave like this.
California water has so much dirt and sand in thewater. Would need to be filtered. One grain of sand would cause the screens to malfunction
That will get mineralized super fast and the patterns will be ruined.
I have better solution to save water and it comes with no cost... Every wash basin has a knob below it, just turn it little to reduce the water flow - refer my work at https://yourwellwisherprogram.wordpress.com/2016/06/24/simplest-way-to-save-water-in-the-world/ Save-Water...ab9348.jpg
Shut up and take my money
how do you purchase this fucker?
how do you buy this fucker?
Awesome idea, love it!
I want one and I want to licence it for the water feature market. Check out www.coolblueoasis.com and let me know what you think.
I have US Patent 5215260 for a similar concept. Qiu's concept is cool but won't work as shown. Water does not work that way. Good job tho.
These are not. I repeat, THESE ARE NOT pictures of a working model. If I could force choke all of you I would.
Just beautiful, wish I had one!
I wonder if there's be left-and right-handed versions?
so cool I want one!
Would you see the geometric shape, or would that only be visible with a still-shot or a strobe? water flow can negate the visual effect.
that's just an idea, but will not work this way. the pictures are fake!
If it actually can do what it says it can do then I want to know where I can get it.
There is beauty everywhere, if only we open our eyes.
Nice but you can save as much water by not letting it run when yo are not using it and taking shorter showers.
I wonder how long it will take until lime scale makes the turbines useless.
wonderful - thank you. what sounds do they make ?
Very pretty
Get a prototype made, then apply to appear on Shark Tank and get some funding. Phenomenal!
That is so awesome!! You should go on Shark Tank and get some funding! Phenomenal idea!!
Cool aesthetics! Innovative nozzle designs promising for saving water. Similar? tririg.com/articles.php?id=2013_01_High_Sierra_Showerhead
Love comments on how people will let water run just to gawk! :-) Very cool to see new nozzle designs tackle water conservation challenges!
I'm just really blown away by how aesthetically pleasing this is!
that guy made it to look so easy...hate & love him
A reduction in the water usage but also increase in electricity consumption. Its elegant though for sure.
I want one how much are they
Beauty is lessened when you try and keep square corners ( on the sink ) clean. A truncated sink would help, but not solve problem.
Stupid
Can't wait for them to go on sale !!!!
wickid
Take my money, where can I by This!
i think i would use more water just playing with it. lol
Where can we buy this faucet, because the pictures were all photoshopped only.
where do I get it? I'm ready.
marvelous! want one.
where can i get one-lol- seriously
I don't care how it does it. I think it's a great invention. I'm not going to worry about if this defies physics. I just want it.
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY
this saves nothing. A given amount of water is always the same no matter what it flos through. If I need a cup of water its always the same
This doesn't save water. A given amount of water is the same amount of water whatever it flows through.
Amazing. Were can you buy this product!!
This one needs a video! I bet even a 10 second one will be watched a million times :)
Very Cool!!! Art in Water!
There is healing in water that is loved! I would love to purchase the part to place in my faucet. How?
How long before you have to clean it. And, don't like water going through plastic, what happens to it in hot water? Nice, but not practical.
LOOKS REALLY GREAT!
I've never cared for things so sleek they were sterile. Simin Q wows the imagination. I want his work in every room.
It has moving parts? Made of plastic? OK. But not very durable.
A video would have been really appreciated; love this idea and design. Excellent!
I don't see how it would save on water when I'd be playing with it for hours! Well done Simin!
just another gimmick 5 minute wonder , in the end it will break all to easy , and go back to original tap , don't fix what aint broke !!!
Where are the hot and cold water options?
I want one! Where can I buy it?
Smart and gorgeous.
Are the turbines moving parts? If so, the money you save on water, you'll eventually spend (and probably more so) on replacement parts.
Fabulous. Is it something everyday people could afford?
Sounds smart and beautiful and I want one!
i think that if this were being made into bigger tunnells and instantly frozen and cut in half we would have great half circle bobsled tracs
Excellent design, very creative
The shown pattern really doesnt match up with the nozzle, the other 2 would work great though, so still a very nice concept!
Wooww!!
Very lovely, how long do the parts last and are they changeable or does the whole faucet have to be replaced if the turbine's wear out?
wow its amazing. what students come up with always awe me
this is absolutely fantastic :)
Elegant
YES!
its brilliant. It will also purify the vibration of the water.
SOO FUNNY MY COMMENTS ARE BEING TAKEN DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!! CONCEPT = CON-ARTIST .........GOOO ROYAL ACADEMY!
please can anyone concerned person tell me the official website ..
KUDOS TO THE STUDENT FOR BEING ABLE TO DO SUCH JAW DROPPING RENDERINGS..............THAT IS ALL.
UPSETTING PERIOD....sketches, exploded cad work, illustrator diagrams, what appear to be acrylic tubing mistakenly presented as water studie
As an ID, if there was an attempt shown to PHYSICALLY toy with water flow & a reference of anything like it would be justified
BUT...."CONCEPT" to the Royal Academy & European Awarding Organizations should not equate to "CON-ARTIST"....
At first I was BREATHLESS.....complimenting, reposting, have people even text me link to my phone........... .
great innovative design.. it shows that there is no limits to what our minds can help us to achieve..*thumbs up*.
I love it and want one!!!
We're can I buy one
Cool
Cool were can I buy one
It s very nice. How can i get it??????
It won't save water .. I would be looking at it for an hour lol.
COOL :)
Love it, love it, love it, love it!
Awesome, some people are thankfully, way too smart !! They are the keepers of our future !!
I think I want one.
I would love that in my Kitchen but do I have to pay extra for the fancy swirl ? How easy would it be to remove lime accumulation ?
Take my money
Very cool!
Beautiful. Looks like it'd work well, beats the being splashed back by heavy flow, or narrow dribble when turned down, with my old taps.
I want it but husband said he would never get me out the bathroom!
Well it must be on the market right now or it is just a concept going to get lost...
AWESOME! 10 for me
It is true. Basic math is beauty and life.
Where can I purchase this? This student should be praised for his insight into creating something sustainable AND beautiful! :)
Wow! What an elegant and stunning water faucet. That's so awesome that it saves water too! Fantastic post!
Beautiful water flowing pattern!
Pretty but this won't work like expected..
Great work!
Beautiful :-)
Physically impossible! Anyone with a high school physics education would see right through this
Nice but does it really save water? By limiting the flow? What about opening the tab a 30% less.
awesome
I would love to see this go into full production and purchase for my clients
Where can i buy one? I'd love to have one or more at home!
Amazeballs
cool !!
Fabuleux. L'Or Bleu mis en valeur. Que d'ingéniosité. Bravo!! De Marie du pays de l'Or Bleu ...
coooooool
I'd love to keep it as a unique show piece...haha But seriously awesome design that saves water..
the best this would be to use the tech to help people and countries that need it the most
Is it really saving up water? Is it because we, lets say, wash hands for 1 minute and it's using less water per minute? Or it's sth else?
Anyway love the idea. Looks really pretty and we need as much beauty in everyday life as we can get.
It's using less per minute. A normal faucet would have a solid cylinder of water flowing, while this one is just made up of strands it seems
It'd be nice if there was a video of this in action!
