I Sculpted Four Horsemen And Submerged Them In The Thames To Warn Of Climate Change
My latest work as a sculptor depicts a series of horses with riders on the banks of the river Thames in central London. Positioned on the shoreline adjacent to the MI6 headquarters in Vauxhall, the tidal works are revealed and partially concealed by the rise and fall of the Thames twice daily.
The hybrid sculptures fuse oil extraction machinery with the equine form, referencing the working horse of London whilst drawing attention to our ongoing dependency on fossil fuels and the potential apocalyptic outcome of climate change.

Share on FacebookI'm surprised you got permission to do this with our current government who always put profit before anything. How long is it going to be there for?
I see four horses with funny looking heads on a riverbank. Can sort of see the oil reference, but in what way does this make any reference to climate change? The apocalyptic link is also extremely weak. There are indeed four horses, but none of the riders or horses in any way resemble the four horsemen of the apocalypse. So essentially this is four cool futuristic looking horses with generic riders and a clever tidal effect. It's pretty cool. It has nothing to do with the environment.
Well, maybe have a look here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pumpjack These kind of pumps are also called oil horse or donkey pumper. They are still common in the region I grew up, that's why I know them. :) The front part does really look like a horse head with a little imagination. ;)
