My photographies are like screenshots from beautiful but cruel fairy tales. Their narrations are not straight. Images that appear are more like feelings that come during a lecture of an old folk-based story – full of witchcrafts and retributions.
The structure of my works is similar to the structure of a dream where natural tendencies of collecting and organizing impulses and motivations coincide with irrational clashes of objects and feelings.
Maybe we are not to belong to this world.

Share on FacebookI disagree, I don't think that these are horrible, or overly sexualized and nor do they show abuse of animals. They are dark, yes, but I quite like some of them, particularly the fox and girl transfusion and the fox and girl beneath the ice. I have enjoyed looking at this collection. If they are not to your taste, so be it, but I would not call them unhinged or disturbed. They are meant to be dark and make your skin prickle looking at them. I think this photographer is talented to get the kinds of strange, vintage-feeling shots.
That was the whole point of the post wasn't it! Glad that some people do agree with it!
Load More Replies..."Beautiful but cruel fairy tales" well that's an oxymoron if I ever heard one. Some of these pics disturbed me a bit and made me feel uncomfortable, but I guess that was the point.
I find them very interesting, I don't get the hate. Not everything should be fluffy funny and cheerful.Everyone has a dark side and if you don't have one you must be a really boring person.
I absolutely love this photography! It's just gorgeous and I suppose people will just interpret it how they do- but all the same, it's art and it's just beautiful.
I know you are all entitled to your opinions, and that's completely fine with me and I understand that some of you might not like this- but it'd do you all well to remember that if somebody created it, it's art. If you don't like it, that doesn't make it any less artistic or powerful...

That person may be artistic....but not any less psychologically disturbed.
I believe all of these animals are taxidermy. Not that it makes it less demented
You have an amazing imagination and a truly intuitive way of producing photographic art. These are really very, very good pieces of art, and I salute you!!
I absolutely find the photo of the red haired girl cradling what appears to be a fox visually stunning and oddly safe.
I find these photos quite stunning. In particular, the red haired girl cradling what appears to be a fox. I find the photo gives me a feeling of being safe and secure in the unknown.
Whoever thinks this is b********y needs to get their eyes checked! The body is only sexualised by society. No clothes does not equal sex!
wonderful work Laura, unsettling as great art should be. I would be interested in your technical process?
Art's not abuot funny and fluffy stuff, sometimes it will make you uncomfortable and unsure... It makes me sad how many people are critisizing this pictures just because they don't understand them. If you don't get something that doesn't mean that the creator is mentaly disturbed, you know? It makes me really wonder how some of you guys would react on art of Damien Hirst, for example...
They are all excellent, seems a shame you don't put your unique and exceptional talent towards uplifting and positive subject matter. The world is sad and dark enough don't you think?
These are gorgeous. Dark, but beautiful. Thank you for sharing them with us, Laura Makabresku.
I find these photos stunning. In particular, the red haired girl cradling what looks to be a fox. I find it visually lovely and (oddly) safe. The fact there is a iv type line running from one to the other is also lovely.
Fantastic ...! I remembered a dream when I woke a few mornings ago and it had a similar feeling to it as I got from some of your pictures...
I was in bed 4 hours ago seeking God. I was bogged down telling the creator life is an illusion. I asked him why do we feel lonely, I asked him can you cure diabetes and cancer...then all of a sudden I saw black trees that were barren, like a barren woman that can't have children and I saw a woman with black hair and a black dress in this environment of barreness...and then my attention came upon her cupping her hands and a beautiful bird of many colors was flying and floating like a humming bird in flight....fast forward 4 hours I come to your sight---whatever is not born in anguish can not live...your fotos are not cruel or upsetting...they call us to anguish over our own existence and reality...I am really happy I found this site....things make sense now in this maddening world we live in????
Art is not about sweet ilustrations and funny kittens, it sometimes leaves you disturbed. I find it really sad that so many people are critisizimg this pictures just because they don't understand them, or they are feeling uncomfortable with them. If you don't understand something it doesn't make it's less of an art piece, and it doesn't mean thar the creator is mentaly disturbed... It makes me really wonder how some of you guys would react on art of Damien Hirst...
Art is not about fluffy kittens and funny drawings - sometimes is about making the viewer uncomfortable. It's really sad, that so many people are critisizing this pictures, just because they do not understand them. You know, if you don't get something this doesny mean that the creator of it is mentaly disturbed, right? Makes me wonder how some of you guys would react on art of Damien Hirst, for example.
I disagree as well. Not everything is meant to be seen by everyone. Death especially for human beings should be private. Between their families and God.
Seriously this is f****d up. Who the f**k decides they want to go do a photoshoot with them naked and a bunch of taxidermy animals?
I'm really sorry, but who are you to tell other people what to do with their lives? Photographer is a real job. I'm and illustrator myself, and it makes me sick whan people are telling me to gest "a real job". If you're making many out of it this is your job. All of us don't have to work in corporations, you know?

There is no such thing as "normal" and artists should not be expected to be politically correct or mainstream. Everybody has their own darkness inside, it is the privilege of an artists to be able to express it freely. It is your freedom to dislike it, but it doesn't take away from the photos. It is dark, and shows something that make us feel uncomfortable. That is the power of art.
