What Happens When People Realize How Their Loved Ones Rate Them

We are often our own harshest critics, but that can sometimes hold us back. By asking people’s loved ones to rate their level of “success,” this social experiment shows us that we often seem more successful to others than to ourselves.
The video, which was created by Strayer University and Aplus, is part of a campaign to literally redefine the word “success” by petitioning the Merriam Webster English dictionary. According to Strayer University, 90% of Americans associate success with happiness rather than “the fact of getting or achieving wealth, respect, or fame,” which is the current Merriam-Webster definition of success. If you agree with their campaign, be sure to sign their petition!
The people in the video were often surprised to see how their loved ones rated them, so remember – we should let our loved ones know what we think of them more often and we might often be more successful than we realize!

me neither- but I'm sure there are still people that rate us without our knowledge. you'll be surprised (me too!)...; maybe they look up to you- not because the "care", necessarily but because most people are judgemental and because they need to find a "hero" I actually have a dog and I'm sure she rates me well because that's always dog's opinion about us I tend to rate myself deep in the bottom of the "lake" (that's under 1) and after seeing this I thought that I'm probably wrong. I cried too... (and I'm not so sure you will find "a one" because I stopped believing in fairy tales...so just hang on to your shoe laces)

I do not understand. If you want a false sense of reality ask someone close, the vast majority of the time they will rate you higher than deserved to spare you from hurt feelings. Why would someone want an ego boost like this? It encourages us to not change, to stop growing as a person.
Because sometimes you simply need it, you need to feel all the work you do for this person is worth something, because all this work you aren't doing it for some random people judging you without knowing anything about you.

I loved this so much. It's important to remember that the way others view us is different than how we view ourselves. People can be so critical towards themselves, but sometimes such criticism is unnecessary.

My mom rated me a 1 since the day I was born. I learned eventually that her opinion doesn't matter at all and the most important are the people that truly love you and appreciate you for who you are. My sister took a while to realise it as well but she has come to terms with the fact that our mother simply isn't a good person and I see us both the better for it.

Could be. It could also be that they both are uncomfortable being emotional around others, in front of the camera, and possibly even with each other. That would explain the awkwardness as well, and is what I believe happened. Also, if your self-esteem is low enough to where you rate yourself a 4/10, then you literally won't believe anyone that thinks you're a 10. You would think "oh that's sweet and naive, but yeah, no I'm a 4."

In most cases relatives and lovers will not give any correct mark to your professional success. Just because they love you. I do not know what htis experiment is about: probably just about the reaction of those, who saw that they have been rated higher than they thought. But then it's nothing unusual. If you are not happy in matter of what you have reached, it will not really help.
