Auto Mechanics Hilariously Recreate Renaissance Paintings
US-based photographer Freddy Fabris had always wanted to pay homage to the famous paintings of Renaissance masters with his photos in some way, but he wasn’t sure how until he stumbled upon an auto-mechanic shop in the Midwest. This led to a brilliant photo series of portraits with auto mechanics reenacting famous Renaissance paintings.
“Translating painting into portrait photography was a challenge I looked forward to,” Fabris wrote on HuffPost. “I wanted to respect the look and feel of the original oil paintings, but needed to come up with a conceptual photo idea that would create a new layer to the original.”
Fabris is a professional photographer, so the rest of his cool photos are definitely worth checking out too!

Loved it! Better if Adam was in his original birthday suit, not the coveralls.
The depiction of the Last Supper is quite touching. The Lord's disciples were working class folks! However, there is no way I would be willing to pose as Christ, too nearly sacrilegious.

Load More Replies...Actually it struck me that the guys at the "Lord's Supper" might actually look more like the disciples than the painting. The disciples were fishermen by trade and the Lord was a carpenter by trade. They lived rough walking through the countryside and perhaps sleeping outside. The artist may have wanted to paint the beauty of their spirits or maybe please the church--paint something uplifting but maybe not as true to life. The wrench thing is amusing to me on many levels. My dad was a mechanic for a lot of his life.
Hilarious. I like the look on their faces. They are really "renaissance" ;) Cool, guys!
This is amazing, very well done and clever. Its great to see these gentlemen were willing to play along. Absolutely love it, definitely says a lot about the time we live in now and is very thought provoking and tastefully humorous. Keep it up, you are going places and fast.
this is amazing, what awesome sports to play along, i love it, very inspirational, and clashes man ideals and thoughts about our time with tasteful humour. Keep it up man you are going places.
These photos are simply the very best. I admire the photographer for recreating some of the greatest art in such a unique manner. Perfect!
Those portraits are amazingly like Rembrandt's. I loved the ceation of Adam, too!
interestingly -- they do look like they should be painted -- love the hair and expressions !!!
Absolutely well thought out and superbly well done. Besides, it's hilariously funny! Please, can we have a lot more??
Loved them! Pity there was no original paintings for some people who may not know what the artist was replicating.
So beautiful! I would hang these on my wall. Great sense of humor too! (Plus, I think Jesus could come back as a working class mechanic.)

Beautiful! A master fine art photographer which inspires...APPLAUSE!
Rembrandt isn't a renaissance painter ;) But still it looks very well done!
Apparently my definition of "hilarious" and yours differ greatly. That or I'm just not stupid enough to find c**p like this amusing...
I guess my definition of "hilarious" and yours differ... Or maybe I'm not stupid enough to find this c**p funny?
