Imagine: If Children Had The Childhood They Deserved
158Kviews
Having created popular series of illustrations like “Holy Selfie,” “World Leader“, “Global Police” and “Just Leaders,” painter Gunduz Aghayev is back with a new work called “Imagine.”
This time, the illustrations are about children. The painter condemns those who want to make children part of their dirty play. Children are innocent and we have to give our all for their future. We have to try not to repeat our previous sins. Let’s make the world as perfect as children, for children.
Gunduz Aghayev altered iconic photos. He drew the little victims of tragedies in a way he would have liked to see them.

Bad call Bored Panda. If I was involved in any of these awful situations I wouldn't appreciate my experience being reimagined with a rosy sentiment such as this. They are powerful images that should be left as they are, as a reminder ( and a wake up call) of the horrific cost of war and the inequity that exists. I understand the artists intentions, but ultimately I don't really think it's helpful or insightful, just wishful thinking ....
Does it not make you grateful for the life you have lead?
I agree with you Claire. None of these images improve with the re imagined reality. However artful, I remain resigned to your statement.
I cannot understand how this comment has got so many upvotes, the point being made is that no one should have to go through the experiances that these poor children went through, surely that something we can all agree on? It's not about their experiances being reimagined with a rosy sentiment, it's saying that if their was justices in the world these kinds would have been playing like normal kids.
I strongly disagree, yes the old images are powerful, but the new images show how these kids lives could have been better if world peace is achieved, these images help people visualize what difference they could help make, it shows what a solution would look like.

One of those 'smart' commenters that always has something meaningful up their sleeve. The person who reimagined these, only wishes to see c-
-Hildren with the childhood they deserve. If you want to view images of suffering kids, then go ahead. But don't critisise something you cl-
illustrations are more creepy than reality...
I'm shocked... How can you trivialise such iconic images of suffering? This is disgusting.
Better try to understand why the new images are so powerful. They show you how the reality could have been, if... These peaces of art are amazing!
P. Brux FHell. lol. are you really taking this literarily ? yes I am serious and you didn't understand what I meant. What I meant is that a childs reality is full of innocent dreams and this is how it could have been if those children didn't have to suffer like that. you should learn what symbolism and expression through art means.
Children don't have "innocent" dreams, they're just smaller people with lesser means of action and "reason" than "grown-ups"....sure they see the world differently and stuff but you'd be surprised to find out they're pretty raw...Kids in school are pretty evil...did you ever notice how they reject someone who's different than the rest (who doesn't fit in) from their social-group or how fights break-out all the time - all this lads later to wars on the grand scale.....Innocence and Experience go hand in hand.... You grow up when you keep the good things from childhood but solve the problems you have with yourself and the world....It's when you have the full power of your actions and decisions when you must demonstrate you're superior to gorillas ... You choose to be an artist or a war-lord....So, in conclusion, children have a similar behavior to wild-animals babies, if you let them go on that path, you won't get a human... Humans become humans through culture.

Reality?? Are you serious??? A floating Disneyland Castle and Walt holding hands with Mickey. Wow, reality!!
Fuck this propaganda. American soldiers dressed as superheroes? Did you forget what the Viet Nam war was about?
Yeah! This is American propaganda. The USA soldiers, generals and everything US military in the Vietnam war were fucking animals. I think even animals behaved better then them. The USA were a bunch of bullies who disliked Vietnam just because it wanted to turn socialist.
I am not an ignorant asshole. I know how many lives were lost and all the statistics. But it's interesting how people keep this image of a wonderful America full of democracy and freedom. If the USA was all that, then they wouldn't send the soldiers to fight in the Vietnam war. And also, while many soldiers were simply scared and fought to survive, there were also many who basically went on massacre sprees. Lest not we forgot the thousands of Vietnamese civilians who were killed by US soldiers. Is the US then all mighty and all free? You ask me to get informed, but then do you yourself believe that the Vietnamese actually started the war? It was a false flag operation.
Just because you weren't drafted to go to war, nothing else ..pack your bags, here you are in a foreign country you never gave a second thought to, and fighting for your life. None, I mean one of these American boys asked to be killed a thousand plus miles away from their homes, o nay to betrayed like criminals when they returned, what they did was fulfilled thier orders, shame on you. Lives were lost! We lost thousands of American men in Nam. Get over yourself and get informed, you ignorant asshole.
Viet Nam War :(
these could be any soldiers dressed as superheros, not just american soldiers
I don't like this. Something about it just... doesn't feel right.
Why do I see hatred in comments? Please understand the Artist is trying to make a point that what this children got in reality vs what should it be like.
Because these images show the worst life has to offer. Death to children.
Horrific. I can't even process the disrespect of so much tragedy. I can't imagine what was going though this 'artist's' head when they thought that doing this was a good idea. Shame on you, Bored Panda, for giving this a platform.
This artist (and boredpanda evidently) has no idea how offensive these rehashed images are. Hideous concept, hideous execution.
This was insulting.
"Imagine: If children had the childhood they deserve" this is how it's called, what you don't understand???
The syrian kid lying on beach is dead with his family while trying escape to europe... Recently german government paid to turkey (my country) for don't let syrian people come to europe... I'm ashamed because of this decision of my country. But even worse! Unfortunately I saw some comments about syrians "we don't wan't them here! bla bla...". What a shame... I believe most of european and american people are really good people but they don't have enough knowledge to get a right idea about things happening at middle east. This artist proved my idea again. Please don't be a xenophobic. You are living a highly developed peaceful country that doesn't have petrol resources but have giant petrol companies. Think about it... Every people deserve better life. Sorry for my english...
I know these pieces means well but really takes the gravity of what really happen in very scene. We must remember this this happened and they still happened. Imagine an alternative reality defeats the awareness that should be raise towards these atrocities
what a bullshit! these colorful pictures are ridiculous.
girls, little brides, are in yemen not in afghanistan.. i think. would you please check?
Yes are absolutely right, I was gonna point that out myself.

What is the difference? They are sick bastards anyway -_-
Not really sure why is there an American cartoon mouse in London.
The bastardization of these devastating world events is disgusting.
Unfortunately reality is cruel and unforgiving; for one reason only, man's inhumanity to man. The world's ills could be corrected overnight if the priorities of all were for the well being of their fellow/sister humans.
Also one more thing, the man who took the picture of the starving boy eventually committed suicide. There's more than just a picture.
Yes. This poor child, and the photographer couldn't do a thing to help because of a government sanction,. The govt of this child took the last chance away from this child. It makes me sick. I rememberthefirsttime I saw this photograph in an exhibition. Tears came forth before I realized. I can't think of anything worse. Poor, poor baby.
The Napalm girl re-pic really disturbs me. First of all, why should she be in the same running stance with an American balloon. How do we know that would be her definition of happiness? Pictures like these are meant to expose the reality of the world, not paint over them. The picture of a boy with arm around a vulture? Just .. Ick, no.
That little girl was saved by the American photographer that took the picture. After that shot he rushed her and a few others to the hospital. She still lives today because of his help. They are still friends. These images do not belittle the tragedy. The artist wishes that the art was the truth, rather than the reality.
Reading the comments I realise some people do not understand the concept of art, this is so shocking it is beautiful!
These images have moved people whether you love them or hate them they have reminded us all of how disturbing the events were.
disgusting and appalled, stop this now, how can someone depreciate the value of the atrocities these people went through
Why do you find this so disgusting? It just shows how the kids would have lived in a different universe , in my opinion...
I mean , did you even read the description of this post?
I don´t like this.. thumb down :(
This pictures are absolutely inspiring, because they manifest what is the real price of war, the price we never see, but it exists as alternative outcome, which only "could be". They call to stop war that heavily burdens children, which is why you see kids in every picture. They do not diminish importance of the events, but rather call for more contemplation in order to make this time illustrated picture a solid reality in future.
This is not what the artist sees, when he looks at these photos. These are what and how we wish they where for the children that deserve better than to be subjected by meaningless wars. I thought it was powerful work, thank you
I love these ;-)
The syrian kid lying on beach is dead with his family while trying escape to europe... Recently german government paid to turkey (my country) for don't let syrian people come to europe... I feel that by showing what could have been, the artist draws attention to the horrible things happening to children in the world. Personally, this struck a chord with me; I work with children. I cannot imagine the horrors of war from a child's perspective.
Why did child brides change their skin colour and facial features to European in " perfect world "? Afghanian is not good enough or what?
dislike
Especially the one with Walt Disney he was a known nazi sympathizer and also contributed money to them, way to go fail all the way
Very poor taste .....
Correction: The child brides are in Yemen, not Afghanistan.
The child brides picture is not from afghanistan, its from yemen!
This is wrong. How can you take pictures of people suffering and turn them into children having fun with the man who ruined their life? A girl naked and crying carrying a balloon of the Statue of Liberty, when the Statue of Liberty could be something that is ruining their life? Children looking at what was once their home, now Disney? This is absolutely sick.
I think this is wrong. You shouldn't take this pictures of people suffering a turn them into girls carrying balloons of the Statue of Liberty, and a Nazi doctor having fun with kids, and children who lost their home into Disney. this is sick.
He was not a Nazi doctor. There is a monument at Yad Vashem in memorial of Janus Korczak and the children. They all died in the gas chamber.
I did not want to look at this piece after seeing the first image but I had to see people's comments. What a relief to see that people echo my reaction. I am horrified and incredulous that someone could treat these tragedies with such disrespect and ignorance. I am disgusted with panda as well for showing them.
Do you all have such a negative view of humanity? Why are you criticizing this at all? This is simply the work of a human who wishes that the world was a better place, because frankly, as of now, it's tucked up. Maybe the artist had a different view than you of what it should have been. But do you want to hear a secret? That doesn't fucking matter. All that matters is the message coming across, and if you can't see the good in that message, I have no more hope for humanity. Imagine. That's what this is about. Imagine.
Tucked = fucked by the way. Sorry about the misspell.
Why so much murican propaganda?
The artist removed the girls Hijabs? Really ?
And also the Vietnamese girl, why would she be playing with a statue of liberty- baloon?!
Westerners are fucked up. They think that solving problems in the Middle-East is so easy, when in fact they were the ones who began the unstability. If Westerners really want to help, they should give them back their statehoods. The more a country is under-attack, the more they want to revert back to extremism.
terrifying :(
My bad, I am sorry for the misinformation. Btw Phan Thị Kim Phúc became a Canadian citizen and lives in Ontario. Ironic isn't?
Incredible!
Totally gut wrenching. The reality is.....real.
Annie, these images before "redrawing" are reminders-and powerful ones-of the powerful cost of wars. Covering it with cheerful sentiment is wishful thinking.
Tourist photographic the "exotic" African child?!!! American super heroes?! Disney?! Liberty statue balloon?!!! What kind of an American self centered piece of shit did this!!
Super heroes? Disney?! Liberty statue balloon?!!! What an American self centered piece of shit!!
The Child brides in this collection is a picture from Yemen. Although, we still find child brides married to mid-aged men in Afghanistan too.
the second one, soldiers are real life super heroes
for the one about Vietnam, where the children are being rescued by soldiers. That is a very real representation of soldiers. During Vietnam, protesters disrespected the soldiers who probably did not want to be there. They probably wanted to get home alive. and here, this picture is depicting a soldier risking his life to save two children.
very good.. ما می توانیم بدبختی هارا به خوبی تبدیل کنیم.. خیلی جالب بود.
This is... Wow, this is depressing as hell. I feel like I need to eat a bowl of Zoloft.
The originals photos really struck a cord with me, I've never seen these photos before and it also upsets me as to why.
poor children .. :(
can anyone tell me how he make this? just painting or using software?! many THX!
Why don't the Afghanistani child brides have headscarves in the so called better images?
I had a perfect childhood, until I was 10 and a half. I lived with my mom in America (I hate her) and she was overprotective. The only place I was about to play outside was the BACKYARD, instead of with other kids (That's why I'm a sociopath) and my mom makes me stay inside and watch TV, I sometimes would stumble upon disturbing content, like childhood ruining episodes (Another reason why I'm a sociopath). I went back to my hometown and lived with my dad again since September 17, 2014 (And I'm still living there) and I'm making my way out of the sociopath abyss.
Very inspiring pictures, which manifest the failures behind every tragic occasion, and how it all could be if responsible people acted differently. They do not diminish momentary or importance of the events, but rather call for more benevolent actions from all people, in order to break the chain of tragic events that mostly burden children, and in order to make the imaginary, this time illustrated alternatives our reality in future.
the war in Vietnam
These Irritate me even more ...This is just another reminder on how destructive and careless we are the real pictures are so heart breaking
I feel bad for the children who have to marry older men at a young age
No just no
YOU CANNOT BLAME THE COMMUNISTS FOR WHAT HAPPENED IN VIETNAM ALL THE TIME!! Remember that the USA began the war in the first place, and the provocation on the Vietnamese side was simply a false flag. Why can't people accept the fact that the USA is basically an empire and is like every single empire. Just because we live in the modern-age with great technology doesn't mean we are not greedy or go to such lengths to start wars. ALSO REMEMBER THAT THE USA WERE THE ONES WHO DROPPED NAPALM ON THE VIETNAMESE!! It's not like they didn't have a choice. Vietnam were basically some guys on bicycles, while the USA had 600x more advanced tech than them.
Such an empire that justifies the bombing and utter destruction of a country that can't even defend itself has no right to sit on a high chair nor does it have any right to say that their own soldiers suffered as well. WTF did they expect? The USA began the war, and the Vietnamese fought to gain their country back.
The napalm was dropped because there was no ther way. Think back to Hiroshima the bomb was dropped so that it would pare the loves of thou-
So it's alright to drop weapons of mass destruction on people even though it might hurt civilians?
-sands more. The hostilities were started by the vietnamese. America wanted to pull out as soon as possible. But the country is now the bet-
-term for it. Please excuse my spelling.
those Child brides are from Yemen
I'm not sure what the creators thought about this. If they meant, Time cures everything, and we still have hope for happiness, then this is a perfect one... And its obvious, some get upset by this.
This America propaganda is just disturbing, don't forget the Japanese burned girl running naked because of an American bomb.
Phan Thị Kim Phúc OOnt (Vietnamese pronunciation: [faːŋ tʰɪ̂ˀ kim fúk͡p̚]; born April 2, 1963) is a Vietnamese-Canadian best known as the nine year old child depicted in the Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph taken during the Vietnam War on June 8, 1972. The iconic photo, taken in Trang Bang by AP photographer Nick Ut, shows her at nine years of age running naked on a road after being severely burned on her back by a South Vietnamese napalm attack
Sad
what great pieces of art and good eye for the shots. sad that those events happened but things happen for a reason. life is like a puzzle, we begin it by the gift of life. God holds in one hand multiple pieces that are events, opportunities, and people. Big or small they all connect, we just need to learn to accept and place them. In the other hand holds eternal life. all still connects and in the end we will see who we are and what we've become as well as seeing what we've done for Him and others. ^^
These honestly make it sadder, but more remembrance :)
I think you guys are way too harsh. Maybe the images don't seem right to you but that doesn't mean you need to say it's disgusting. Maybe y-
-ou just see it a different way. So please don't go around violating the comments wall with those remarks.Make them less insulting, at least
I love the artworks, reminding me of the possible best we human can do in this world together. :)
Good intentions, definitely, but the Carter one with a vulture crosses the line. I can understand the concept, but it trivializes (and almost parodies) the originals...
great this is real image's in the world... .Gunduz God Bless You.
And here I thought you were going to do the opposite, like what a spoiled child should get, rich children, brats, etc.
appauling, stop this now
Strangely disturbing..
awsomeness!!!
I don't know if it's me but it looks like Spider Man is beat-boxing
Fantastic
amazing
Bravo!!!
Great
Wonderful
