I Made A Public Service Announcement Comic About Road Rage With An Animated Video

Why do people get mad so often behind the wheel? You’ve probably seen or experienced that moment of anger when driving. Why do we get angry when driving, and why do we get angry on the road, though? Here are some reasons behind it.

Quite simply, driving is dangerous. Because it is dangerous, it makes us nervous. It doesn’t matter if you’re a veteran or a total newbie; we still feel some tension when we drive. And just about every time we get behind the wheel, we have someplace to get to. Unless we are just out for a spin, we are trying to reach someplace, and there is probably a specific time we are supposed to be there.

More info: youtu.be

Why we get angry when driving

Simply put, we have a goal in mind, and at every red light that stops us, every driver going too slow, and every poorly marked intersection, it’s one more thing keeping us from our goal.

We are always late for something

In fact, you’ve probably noticed that when you are running late for something, you get even angrier about the things that slow you down.

Drivers that cut into our lanes without signalling

Don’t you wish you could flash a “sorry” sign?

For instance, how many times have you accidentally cut someone’s lane without signaling? Did you wish you had that magic button and your rear window displays the “SORRY” sign?

Clowns on the road

People that curse at You as they pass by

Or, has someone flown by you cursing at your slow speed when you’re going 60, only to reach a red light and watch you creep up to him?

You give him that “What’s up, bruh?” look, and that clown smiles nervously, just waiting to get the hell out of there.

Even though you’re irritated, you can’t help but look at the jerk again, and there he goes with a parting “Later b***h~.”

People that cut into your lane suddenly

Part of what lends itself to the anger is that most of the time, the other drivers are unknown to us. So, when another driver cuts us off, we can call them a “complete idiot.”

People that make their own rules

Of course, the biggest issue is probably the “Unwritten Rules.” When someone violates our rules, we get angry. Imagine, for a moment, that if you come up behind someone driving 60 mph and can’t pass, you might get mad because they aren’t moving fast enough. If someone comes up and rides your bumper because you aren’t going fast enough, you might get angry at them for going too fast.

In this scenario, you are all violating the written rule, but your anger results from the other drivers having broken your personal, unwritten law.

So the next time you get behind the wheel, take a deep breath and always think twice before you get irritated by someone else on the road. Sometimes, it’s just not worth it.

My frustration while driving is definitely at a different level if I have my children in the car. I'm less likely to honk at a person who almost hit me but I'm also more likely to stress over the car that is tailgating, veering into my lane, cutting me off...pretty much anything that is downright dangerous. This is a bit eye opening, thank you for sharing!

Totally. Is your frustration due to worrying about the safety of your kids? Or because in general you're already stressed out most of the day and the slightest things can get you irritated. Appreciate the thoughts and glad to entertain!

I never had road rage until people started being in their phones while driving...especially texting!!! There have actually been studies done showing texting while driving is worse than driving under the influence! And as far as the police are concerned I've observed them doing it too!
