We often give you great reasons to visit Japan. The scenery. The lights. The weirdness. But for those of you who still aren’t convinced, here’s yet another brilliant excuse to visit the Land of the Rising Sun. Fireflies!
Every summer, for very short periods, these magical bugs turn forests in Japan into beautiful stages for their ephemeral light shows while trying to attract a mate. And every summer, in the early evening, photographers set out to snap these shows in beautifully evocative photographs. Fireflies are often difficult to find because they don’t like other forms of light (the divas), so you need to be good at hide and seek as well as a skillful photographer if you want to capture their amazing displays for yourself. Because the flash from fireflies is brief and intermittent, photographers often use long exposure shots taken from a tripod in order to capture the sorts of mesmerizing pictures that you can see below. Share on FacebookEvery child should have the memory of trying to catch fireflies in a jar. These photos reminded me of my childhood. Excellent shots, regardless of when they were taken.
no, no, no, that movie destroyed my weekend, it was SO SAD (T_T) but yeah, it was good tho

I just loved seeing all those fireflies. We have them in Southern Ontario too. Unfortunately though, they aren't in Alberta where we live now.
i was went shizuoka and watch fireflies.. but it's nothing like this =( guess it's not a popular spot for them
This just looks like bad Photoshop... How can I tell those are real fireflies and not just smeared dots? Nothing is focused, except for the far away trees in the background. I'm not saying this article is false, but the photos sure don't convince me otherwise.
My sister went to one of these places and taken the photos of fireflies. To take these photos you have to do long exposure on the background because chasing flying objects to focus on is impossible. My sister's photo looked like that and she had photoshopped version and natural version to compare. She had to photoshop background after long exposure because it looked like day time.

Actually no. My friend has been to one in Chiba (a few days ago) and was actually planning to go to another one in Gunma. These places exist and are really famous for it. Now that is a fact, whether you believe it or not. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2340850/The-enchanted-forest-Thousands-dancing-fireflies-create-magical-woodland-glow.html
