Tokyo Couples Risk Their Lives To Be Wrapped-Up In Plastic Bags For Photos
These couples are wrapped up in a plastic bag bound by each other posing for portraits to outline their bond. The artist Haruhiko Kawaguchi, covers people in lube and then vacuum packs them in plastic bags – sucking out all the air.
There is a paramedic team nearby as the suffocated couples hold their breath and he has just few seconds to take the shots.
Haruhiko says: “With my pictures, I try to show this power of love by getting the couples as close together as possible. The less distance there is between them, the stronger the power of love.”
“I think love is the most important thing in the earth. I think that everything positive in the world starts by focusing on love.”

if you start asking this about all other art...! ;0) and gasp
Load More Replies...I get that sometimes art is disturbing. However, the artist here explains that his intention is to show the power of love. I only felt horror looking at these pictures...
I imagine having one of them fart as the material is sealed would make for the longest 60 seconds and the worst breath of "fresh air" after
I don't find this cute O.O kinda feels possesive xP I find love to be free and uplifting, this looks literaly suffocating :P But that's me :P
At first, I thought this was some installation drawing attention to plastic and the dangers it causes the environment. No, just people being vacuum-packed.
Maybe it's just me, but I think this is the stupidest thing I have ever seen. What idiots.
Stupid. Ridiculous. Dumb. Just because a person has an idea does not mean it should be followed. It looks grotesque, morbid and scary. I would not want a family member doing this in the name of "progressive art". It seriously worries me. Are they that jobless or what?
I thought it was gonna be some PETA thing like do u want to be vacuum sealed? I don't really find any love in a plastic bag
Ugh. What a stupid, irresponsible thing to do. I don't care, this is not 'art', this is insanity
The artist tried, but the message is not one of love, in a positive sense, anyway. To me, it displays a dangerous, suffocating relationship.
I studied, this or a project similar to it, 5 years ago created by PETA. The message was unsuccessful and was intended to emulate meat packaged in plastic and its ever lasting effect on the internet. If this is a separate project, they have accomplished nothing original and have equally not accomplished much else than carelessness and a feeling of entrapment within a relationship.
A tad kitsch but a cool idea with interesting results. And I really REALLY want to see a making-of video!!
Umm nope art is cool but I'm not gonna suffocate for it. Plus some photographer take forever.
'Couples as close together as possible'...in the most disturbing way possible...plus the possibility of death. That's not how I define love.
I learned about this or a project similar that PETA took on back about 5-6 years ago. It was to emulate that of meat within packaging. Unfortunately if this is to be innovative, it's just being careless and stupid- just like PETA's message.
This is terrifying!!! And most of the time I'm trying to figure out how their legs are bent and "where did that arm go?!"
LOL! They're in paraphernalia created for an asphyxiation fetish - an originator of the design is the Baroness.
Sounds rather stupid risking your life to take a picture of a new art wave. Paramedics are there in case something goes wrong. I would never attempt to do this I am more intelligent than that.
This is scary as hell, I would never be trusting enough to be put in this situation. That said, the pictures are... strange. It looks like the meat you find in your usual supermarket except some of the meat has clothes on. It's a little disturbing, but as long as nobody is harmed and everyone implied is okay with it...
Weird!! See this is what happens to a people as a whole when you drop two, count them two nuclear weapons on a country..
Another photographer uniquely displaying his talent although strange to some yes but weirder things have come out of Japan (chicken flavored nail polish for example) I like the poses and the outfits (the ones who weren't nude) I didn't particularly like the plastic I found it took away from the picture but I'm not an expert in art.
I don't think you have to be an expert in art, you know what you like right? And this isn't it, right? Me too.
