I Illustrated The 15-Year-Long Period Of My Life When I Met, Fell In Love With, And Married The Love Of My Life

I usually draw funny comics about the things I experience with my toddler so that he can look back on them in the future. But I also want him to know the true story of how I met his mother, which I finally got around to drawing.
When I was 12, I met a girl named Tina. We were both in 8th grade and attending a school in Beijing, China. While it would be true to say fifteen years later, I married my childhood friend and middle school sweetheart, it would also be misleading because what true love story is ever that simple?
We never actually even dated at any point during the first fourteen years – we had some close calls, but life always intervened. Through it all, we stayed in touch by writing letters to each other, and between us, we accumulated five shoeboxes worth of letters that probably should never see the light of day.
I’ve never been one to believe in the idea of soulmates, but I have to say, waking up every morning next to my wife makes me wonder whether I’m wrong. So perhaps this isn’t a webcomic about a love story per se, but rather a story of my life and about Tina’s persistence and sheer awesomeness. Never give up on what you love… sometimes it just takes a while!

Makes me realize how much i have missed due to being bullied. During 11 years of school i was bullied all day every day. Teachers laughed along with the bullies, basically allowing bullying to occur in the classroom. So all trough my school years nothing happened. I never approached a girl, i neverheld any hands in a sweaty way, i never had a nervous kiss. I walked around alone. I spent most breaks in a toilet stall because it meant i could hide from the bullies, i could lock a door between me and them. As a youth i was bullied. As a young adult i was bullied. Due to being told i was worthless and "should kill myself so noone had to look at me" every day, i had no self esteem. My self-loathing was trough the roof. I never dated anyone, i never watched that first movie with a girl people talk about. Now i am 44 years old. I live alone. I have no friends to turn to. I will probably die alone. Bullying sucks!
Damien - It's never too late. Check out some place like meetup.com or volunteer and go meet people who have similar interests to you. Don't go looking for love, go looking for friendship. If you are a nice guy and are true to yourself you will gain a circle of friends and they will help you find love. Make sure to listen to other people, don't be a sad sack who lives in self pity or you will drive people away. Just be kind, sincere and care about other people. You can do this. It really isn't too late.
Seek help, man. BoredPanda is not the best place to do it, but there are others, and some must be close to where you live. I was bullied at school and in the street as well. Guess what? Some of the guys who bullied me are dead now while I'm still alive. We all grow up and have to live with what we've been given. We only have this one life, there is no "Press Start to try again" at the end of it. Best of luck to you, I hope you find the strength to never give up.

We got married 15 Months later 1967 and we have been together for 52 years now. It was the best move I ever made. She was and still is the only woman for me. So this couple really dont have a thing on My darling wife and I. Its amazing he was so boring and indecisive. How can you not react positively. Me?? Harry Marsh I'm getting to be an older guy and have seen and done a lot in my life. I read the story of Tina and Jonathan and I cried my eyes out in happiness. I have a story about me and my wife and love Barbara. All of the remembrances about how we met and things we did were of course slightly different, but the feelings were the same. The more I read the story the harder I cried and the remembrances I felt made me feel that I was back in time and what we have gone through in our lives together. Next year it will be 50 years since we met and yet the story made it feel like yesterday. Thank you so much.
