One of my dreams is to have one of my FLIGHT wall art installations permanently installed at a public site or a modern space.

My FLIGHT series, mixed media on canvas work, is a modern interpretation of birds and other creatures that overcome gravity through flight. The FLIGHT series stands for freedom, for overcoming the forces in life that pull us down.

I originated a shape-combining, “constellation” style of wall art installation in 2010. My experiments with creating round work mounted on compact disks in 2006 led to developing my signature style and my first installation work of this type was exhibited in 2012. In my wall installations, I often use round artwork of small, medium and large sizes combined together to create patterns. Many viewers comment that the organic wall installations remind them of a constellation. As my work evolved, I began incorporating other canvas shapes such as rectangles and squares, as well. I create imagery in a series and vary my imagery used on the canvases according to the project. A pattern of canvases can suggest a sequence, an emotion or a larger context.

I’ve worked for over a decade to develop my signature style of installation artwork and to find spaces that were large enough to exhibit my vision. I was inspired to experiment with round artwork by the wonderful, late artist Diane Hause when she invited other artists to exhibit art mounted on recycled compact disks at 3Ten Gallery in Atlanta back in 2006. This led to developing my current style of work by 2010 but it took me until 2012 to find space to exhibit large work!

The Flight series contains a digital component. They are born from my experiments with particle drawing. They integrate technology, a daily part of modern life, while still showing brushstrokes and texture of the paint on the surface of the artwork.

These wall installations have been featured in several art exhibits, such as: Real Gallery (2012), UrbanFronts (2013), Southwest Arts Center (2015), the Decatur Arts Alliance (2017), and the Aviation Community Cultural Center (2018).

This series of installations called “Taking Flight” may look small but they were big! The middle one in the photo above is about 30 feet long.
