Ukrainian Ballet Prodigy Wins Everyone’s Hearts With His Terrific Interpretation Of ‘Take Me To Church’
Hozier’s beautiful and soulful “Take Me To Church” track is an international hit in it own right, but when coupled with this raw and expressive dance piece by Ukrainian ballet dancer Sergei Polunin, it gains a new layer of powerful emotion.
The bluesy tunes of “Take Me To Church,” together with choreography written by Jade Hale-Christofi, guide Polunin through a torturous flurry of writhing arches and spins, as if the pain in Hozier’s voice courses through him as well. David LaChapelle cptured the whole thing on camera.
Polunin’s performance seems to take a page from Sia’s book – two of her recent music videos, both popular (and controversial), featured powerful interpretive dance performances. If you’ve been living under a rock, please check out the videos for “Chandelier” and “Elastic Heart!”

Share on FacebookIf you break the performance down into elements, it's actually spectacular. As a piece, I wasn't overly impressed with his interpretation.
Sadly, there are some who must see flaws in whatever they see. Can you not just see beauty?
Load More Replies...i have never before been a fan of male ballet, but you sir have forever changed my mind! Bravo!! Beautiful! Moving
I've can't seem to stop watching this over and over. It takes my breath away.
I loved every move of this exquisite body. The struggle for forgiveness was stark and his graceful moves and twirls were spectacular!
The piece itself was amazing. I loved the opening, but the song doesn't go with the dance. Personally I think it needed to be less pretty
The dance is simply marvelous! P.S. Do you really had to write "Ukrainian"?I mean he was born there, then went to London, now works in Russia
There are not enough words to describe the talent of this ballerino.
The physical strength it takes to move and control your body so flawlessly is impressive. Excellent.
