Anti-Trump Protesters In California Turn Violent

Ten people were arrested in Berkeley, California Saturday in the violence that erupted when an anti-Trump protest sought to counter a march in support of President Trump.

Breitbart reports that five people were arrested for battery, four for assault with a deadly weapon, and one for resisting arrest. Among the items reportedly confiscated by police from the combatants were metal pipes, bats, 2x4s, bricks, and pieces of wood.

“Some anti-Trump protesters threw things at Trump supporters. Berkeley police made occasional forays into the crowd, but mostly held back,” reported the Marin Independent Journal. “Protesters spilled out into Martin Luther King Junior Way and were fighting in the middle of the street, and there were people punching each other on the sidewalks. Some people had bloody faces. One pro-Trump supporter was apparently sprayed in the face with Mace.”

Just like during the anti-Milo Yiannopoulos rioting in this very same city last month, some complained that police officers held back.

One elderly Trump supporter in a MAGA hat was pepper-sprayed, causing him to collapse on the ground.

“At least two people, with their faces covered up, could be seen on video trying to set fire to an American flag, while a photo on Twitter showed the bloody face of a man who wore a T-shirt that said ‘Trump is My President.’” reported The Los Angeles Times.

Berkeley wasn’t the only location in which violence marred the nationwide march in support of President Trump. Fox News reports that six people protesting the rally in St. Paul were arrested on felony riot charges after lighting fireworks inside the Minnesota State Capitol and fleeing. About 400 people attended the event; about 50 people showed up to protest it.

In Nashville, two people were arrested as protesters clashed with Trump supporters at the Tennessee Capitol. In Olympia, Wash., four demonstrators were arrested at a support of Trump rally, accused of assaulting a police officer.

In Ohio, one Trump supporter said she increasingly fears civil war. “We did not want to have something like this happen,” she said. “We came out today because Trump deserves to see he still has people for him. It’s just all sad.”

Counter protesters nearby, separated from the rally by police tape, chanted “No Trump. No KKK. No fascist USA” and held signs with messages such as “Your vote was a hate crime.”

Fox reports that elsewhere around the country — Pennsylvania; Augusta, Maine; Miami; North Carolina; Indianapolis; Phoenix, Arizona; Austin, Texas; Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Lansing, Michigan, among other places — hundreds of Trump supporters rallied peacefully against his critics.
