I Design Ads Of Major Companies That Show The Harsh Reality (Warning: Upsetting Content)
102Kviews
My name is Igor Dobrowolski and I’m a Polish artist. Recently, I designed my own version of the real advertisement. Corporations like Nestlé and Unilever profit wildly from single-use plastic packaging while peddling the myth of recycling as a solution. But anyone who has thought seriously about the issue can see that recycling could never handle the amount of plastic surrounding our everyday life.

Coca-cola
Also, don’t forget that plastic is itself created from fossil fuels and lobbied for by the fossil fuel industry, while they desperately try to maintain the single-use plastic status quo instead of tackling the problem at the source. Only by stopping the production of single-use plastics can this crisis be addressed.

Kate Lin is a senior campaigner at Greenpeace East Asia, based in Hong Kong. She says that the measure of human demands on Earth’s natural resources is known as our ecological footprint. Currently, we use the equivalent of 1.5 Earths to produce all the renewable resources we use. As the human population grows, the challenge of reducing our footprint becomes more urgent.
Pepsi
Years of scientific investigation have given us a clear understanding of what’s causing climate change and how humans are contributing. It works like this:
Certain gases in the atmosphere — like carbon dioxide — create what’s called the greenhouse effect, trapping in heat and regulating the Earth’s temperature.
Burning fossil fuels releases more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, particularly carbon dioxide. While not the most potent greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide is by far the most emitted by human activities.
Nutella
More greenhouse gases in the atmosphere mean a more intense greenhouse effect, causing the Earth to keep getting warmer. There’s more carbon dioxide in our atmosphere now than there’s been in the past 150,000 years. We’re also learning more about the impacts of climate change, many of which have serious consequences for humans and wildlife.
Nestle
The devastating impacts of climate change are clear. Our world is warmer than ever before, and people and wildlife are already suffering the consequences. But that’s nothing compared to what we’re leaving future generations if these trends continue. It’s time to stop the destruction. It’s time for an energy revolution.
BP
Fossil fuels — coal, oil and, natural gas — are major contributors to climate change, accounting for the vast majority of greenhouse gas emissions.
They’re also one of the main culprits polluting our air, water, and soil. Coal-burning power plants, for example, produce millions of tons of toxic sludge every year, and we’re stilling reeling from the impacts of the 2010 BP Deepwater Horizon spill that rocked the Gulf of Mexico.

Heartbreaking. I stopped eating Nutella and everything with palm oil in it since about two years. And I collect even the smallest piece of plastic (glass, metal, paper) selectively.
Who’s doing all the downvoting? These are all opinions, and we should respect that. If you don’t want to upvote, ignore the comment unless it is something hurtful please.
I'm asking the same... never seen so many downvotes and hidden comments under one article. It is really upsetting under this one. I upvoted everyone.
I haven't seen those can rings (the ones on the turtle) in years. I don't know if they're banned here, but when you buy a dozen cans of anything they come in a cardboard box now.
They are still been used by most companies. They never stoped and they even use them on bottled sodas too

Neither one of those in my country.
You know, palm tree oil is the most efficient way of producing comestible oil. Alternative are even more detrimental to the ecosystem.
the key is to check which companies use moraly grown palm and use those while totally banning those who rob environment - there is a list of manufacturers, both from food and cosmetics industries, who use oil from renewable balanced plantations
You're going to get a lot of downvotes even though you're actually right. It's easier for people to jump on the all-palm-oil-is-evil bandwagon instead of read about how much worse the alternatives are. Sustainable palm oil is the best option.
Really? Seems like all the canola farms in North America that are replacing the tobacco and peanut farms as demand for those decreases is more ecologically sustainable than palm oil. At least then nothing new is being deforested.

Ferrero, the maker of Nutella Is 50 years that Is using palm oil only from their sustainable palm tree farms.
Make it yourself, it's easy.....................Ingredients 1 cup hazelnuts. 12 ounces milk chocolate, chopped. 2 tablespoons canola oil. 3 tablespoons powdered sugar. 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract.
Exactly. Ppl think you can sustainably grow it, but where there is demand, there will be those operating outside limitations. So Nutella’s good stewardship is a farce. I live canola field adjacent. It’s a whole other prairie grass issue (aka a grass birds issue), but much more sustainable
I live happily without Nutella. I wish I could put that picture here showing the ingredients layered in the jar. The sugar and palm oil parts are truly disgusting. ...What are all these downvotes, btw? I can't reply to anyone's comment under mine, except for yours... Anyway, thanks for the recipe.
the first time i saw a pic of an animal with the little round soda bottle cap trim stuck on them I experienced a lifetime of guilt for not cutting them before tossing them out. I had no idea. Images like this are PAINFUL to see but also so critical so people can make changes to their behavior to eliminate their tiny portion of damages. We no longer buy any soda, we use a home fizz system. No nutella here and I limit as much as possible items with palm oil and when I shop I do not buy items with excessive packaging as I cannot easily recycle it where I live. We drive so little that our 10 and 18 yr old cars barely have 100k miles on them together. I am eager to transition to a battery powered car but we have to transport a person who uses a power wheelchair often so that conversion needs to be available.
I hate to say it, if you are using a 'SodaStream' home fizz system, they operate in Israeli-occupied territory in the West Bank. A location that is both hindering the peace process and allowing the company to profit off an occupied people. https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2014/01/why-these-people-want-you-to-boycott-sodastream/

As mcathenae says, sodastream are produced by israelians colons in occupied territories. You should not buy that
Thank you Panda for posting my work.
Mr. McGuire: I want to say one word to you. Just one word. Benjamin: Yes, sir. Mr. McGuire: Are you listening? Benjamin: Yes, I am. Mr. McGuire: Plastics. Benjamin: Exactly how do you mean? Mr. McGuire: There's a great future in plastics. Think about it. Will you think about it?
Things like Pepsi and Nutella I stopped using. I stopped using Nutella because it contains palm oil and I stopped with Pepsi because of, well you can see. When I used to drink soft drinks like coke I would always cut the plastic rings so animals wouldn't get stuck
I live near the beach, every time I go I end up picking up someone elses garbage. There are trash and recycle cans every where. We have groups come to our schools every year to educate all grades on littering, recycling. Animals are brought in to educate them on why it is important to not litter. We have beach clean up days at school. We have been doing this for years. And yet people are still to lazy and selfish to do the right thing. If every day citizens will not do at least that much how can you expect big business to care. They are making big bucks and wont stop unless they are hit in the wallet. If people are'nt willing to do something as easy as using reuse drink containers and picking up their own crap what makes us think they will sacrifice their beloved food choiced? Its depressing. And I am also sick and tired of coming up on used needles when I'm out and about.
This is utterly painful to see
Man there are some fucked up nihilists giving downvotes galore.
what did we do to our beautiful planet in less than 100 years?!
Very very sad and unfortunate -_- I didn't know this.. thank you for opening my eyes to the reality o_o
That’s why it so important to recycle as much as possible. For example I try to do as much as I can to not purchase plastic items: i.e. plastic water by the case- I use a refillable water bottle everyday that’s BPA free. But there is some times you can’t avoid it. However I know I’ve reduced my plastic purchases at least 75% or more from 15-20 years ago.
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
90% of plastic is not recycled so recycling basically does nothing. Some products that claim to be biodegradable haven't been tested enough to prove they are and some products that state they are made from recycled plastic are probably never made of 100% recycled plastic.
And I am guessing what numerous of other definitions food companies make up every year, to conceal the fact of palm oil is 1 of their ingredients. Welcome to food-marketing!
Terrifying
This is extremely sad and disturbing
All of this is really really sad. And I want to help the Earth more by getting rid of plastic things and stuff like that.. but notice how none of these pictures have plastic straws in them? We need to get rid of plastic rings that soda cans come in, and plastic bags, and plastic water bottles, etc. And I know that getting rid of all of those is gonna be hard, but I think that right now, getting rid of plastic straws are really amazing and all, but getting rid of all those other things will actually make a difference in the world with saving our beloved animals. Wake up people! There are more animals than just sea turtles getting effected by this awful stuff. Galatians 4:16
No one should eat Nutella!
And so for all the food you don't exactly know the origin and the ethic. So we should cut almost all of our food. And all of our stuff. I don't know you, but I can't control the origin of every thing I use or I eat. And also, I have not the competence to know what ingredients are preferable. So, why are you only complaining about Nutella?
You CAN control the origin of everything you use or eat. By not buying the crap that is killing our planet.
I always read the label on packaging to make sure their is no palm oil in the ingredients.
Mr. Dobrowolski, Thank you. It's just horrible to see a poor, undeserving animal treated so inhumanely. We all need to see a lot more of your work. KUDOs IMG_201901...9d1b52.jpg
All of them except Nutella can't really be controlled by the company, Coke and Pepsi can't control who throws their products into the ocean nor can Starbucks. Also with the oil spills that's usually like an explosion or something that is really dangerous so people could die you can't help it if there are technical issues
But Coke, Pepsi, and Starbucks can stop with the dangerous, polluting packaging. The plastic garbage vortex in the ocean is largely comprised of consumer product packaging, yet these corporations do little to clean-up the messes their products cause. Most oil spills have been caused by negligence, whether incompetent/intoxicated piloting of tanker ships, or favoring production volume over safety of the workers and the environment. If you reviewed the investigations into most petroleum-related environmental disasters, you're realize that pretty much all were completely avoidable had the corporations not been so greedy, and in many cases, there were plenty of close calls and other warnings that something bad was about to happen well in advance, supervisors just ignored the problems or worked around them rather than fixing the causes in a timely manner.
Sad...very very sad!
Well found some new companies to boycott
PLEASE PEOPLE, if you have to throw away your plastic garbage, CUT ANYTHING that makes a loop or a ring! Just snip it. You're killing the planet!
It's not the products itself, it's the people who throw in the street/sea/forest.
People are down voting because they are too greedy and selfish to care about the earth. I am constantly shocked that people with kids will say "So who cares, I won't be around when it all falls apart" . Pure laziness, just try something different, don't use plastic like it's the only product out there. recycle, recycle recycle. If nothing else at least that gets it out of the dumps and puts it back to use. And it costs you nothing!!
Why are there so many downvotes on this article? Do you really think it's easy to clean up oceans, oil, plastic and palm oil trees that have been accumilating for centruries? We can all do our bit but until the corporations accept their responsibility nothing will change.
The turtle one almost made me cry
Why all the downvoting? I'm so lost lol people saying 'this is sad and disturbing' are totally right!
Humans are killing everything including earth.
We stack our plastic rings and cut them into smaller than bite sized bits. Quit the conundrum, we went to plastic to save trees, now plastic killing another chain in the circle of life.
I recycle everything I possibly can after reading the amount of "Trash " dumped in the ocean every year. The amount was mind boggling!!!
Heartbreaking.
This is eye opening. I never considered the little plastic rings from soda, water, milk lids. I will be cutting those off from now on.
Well, although the companies use plastic packaging, it's the consumers who are mostly to blame. They throw away their shit like it's nothing. It's like blaming a car producer for an car-accident that has taken place because the driver was on his phone and didn't pay attention. Yes, the car was made by the producer, but it's the costumer that is making a mess.
Everybody is to blame. If we want the world to get better, everyone has to work towards it. For example, it is clearly listed in the flyers handed out by my town that we cannot recycle styrofoam. That doesn't stop restaurants from packing your leftover food into styrofoam containers (what's worse, to waste food or use styrofoam?) or restaurants who package anything meat on styrofoam plates. I believe it's companies' job to make it a reasonable choice to live sustainably by using plastic containers that can be returned, rewashed and reused. What if for much of the food bought from the grocery store, had reusable packaging that you paid a deposit on, you get the deposit back when you return it to the grocery store, it returns on the now empty food trucks to the item's packaging center where it will be rewashed and refilled and sent back out again. That is a world I want to live in, where everybody works together for the greater good.
I think the only company that would do anything about this would be Starbucks. The rest of them could care less.
Hurts my heart knowing our earth and animals are treated this way.
Really so sad. Can you imagine how long that plastic must have been around that turtle for it to deform its shell that much, or the pain those birds must have experienced with it imbedded in its beak? I remember a number of years ago, when the war was wrging in the Sudan, a reporter for the New York Times, was there covering it for weeks/months at a time, but no matter who he wrote about, no one seemed to care. So, as a last ditch effort, he report an article titled, "Save the Dafur Puppy". The entire piece followed the life and struggle of a puppy surrounded by war. And sure enough, the paper was flooded with people wanting to know how they could help. While it's upsetting that people felt no impetus to help the millions of men, women, and children, at least they finally decided to do something. So maybe people don't care enough when they see fellow humans suffering because of climate change, but will care when they see animals. Regardless of what gets them to act, at least they do.
@Marianne, you make a great point. I wasn't aware of the Dafur puppy story. (Not sure why people were downvoting!)
Some of them confuse me. For example, I don't see any plastic packaging on the polar bear, nor on the sloth. I guess I'm getting too old to see things clearly.
It's not just plastic packaging. There can be oil spills and loss of habitat.
The sloth is losing its home due to deforestation of the forests that have the palm oil trees (not sure if that is the actual name of the trees). The polar bear is dying out as the food sources and the ice flows (due to global warming) are disappearing.
Polar bear = global warming which companies like the one on the pic contribute to, so ice caps melt therefor no hunting for them which kills them of starvation. Sloth = deforestation which means no tree which means no habitat for the sloths. They only come down the trees to poop which means they spend almost their whole lives on a tree. No trees no home or protection for the sloth.
K. LNU i don't get the downvotes you were just staying facts.
the polar bear was deflated
I feel so bad now ;-;
I thought to myself, that I will not open this gallery, cause I know what's in there. I wasn't wrong. People are the worst animals on the face of earth... And looking at those I feel ashamed, that I am too, a human.
Some brands are going back to reusable packaging. Unfortunately it can't happen fast enough and it's never for any products average consumers use. I can't afford a luxury moisturizer in a reusabe container. Why don't we put cleansers and soaps in a reusable? Silicone containers are avaliable now and can handle high heat for sterilzation.
Poor thing
No buying products that contain palm oil doesn't stop the production of palm oil. It's a vicious circle that doesn't have an easy solution, I hate how people assume that no buying something somehow means it's not still being produced... It's devestation what these products have done to our planet but we also need to cheer companies on when they are making a big difference. Small steps are still steps, as long as we're not going backwards.
bruh its not the companies fault its the litterers
however companies should clean up work areas like mines and such
S t o p d o w n v o t i n g
Some folks think going solar is more important than avoiding plastic items. Plastic should be banned everywhere. This is why I don't support China. They produce almost 60 billion tons of plastic every year!
plastic heart valves and stents should be banned?
Oh come on, we are talking about plastic waste. Stop being a smartass.
There is absolutely no reason for buying single use plastic bottles
Y'all need to read Factfulness by Hans Rosling.
We have been recycling as a family for about 10 years now. I see more and more people become more aware about the environmental crisis and try to help make things better like we have been. But without the big corporations just cutting the crap and taking action and taking responsibility of their littering and causing colossal damage to the environment, we are just a dust in the solution. It's like trying to clean up a wasteyard, toothpick by toothpick, while there's a garbage full of new truck coming every second.

Let's be honest...part of the problem is also the consumers and how we dispose of our rubbish. Cutting up the rings etc can reduce the danger to animals. I do find it shocking how little we recycle. In japan they have a massive poster to help you sort your trash out, they have phone apps, and they have a booklet to help. When I lived there I would have a small bag worth of actual trash that wasn't recycled (they burned them) and the rest was all recycled. I used to wash out all the bottles and cans and sort the different plastics out. I now live in the UK where people complain about the effort to do that and about the lack of space to store everything. People are just lazy. As for global warming. That's a natural thing the earth does. It's not caused by us. There is the possibility we are speeding up the process slightly but there's little to no evidence that says we are the cause.

So where is the human responsibility??? As far as the liter goes- the major corporations have nothing to do with the idiots throwing trash out. Both are creating an unmountable debt with nature.

You’re welcome to go back to a world without plastics and all the modern conveniences you love and use every day. Have fun with that.
Actually the problem is not yes/no - plastic/no plastic. There are many options that we can use like more easily dissolving plastics or recycling much more of our waste. Can you guess why that's not done? Bcoz it will reduce the profit for the big companies and they don't want that.
Actually the problem is stupid posts like this that point out a problem but don’t offer solutions. People are so quick to virtue signal, but if you ask a real question: how will you fix this in a practical way?? CRICKETS.
@Ben Smith: The problem is way above and beyond average people to fix. It has to be a system-side change, a change in policy, a change in environmental regulations, a change in policy, a change in industry (literally a change in manufacturing), and will require countries to cooperate. When the ONLY impetus for change is profit, then one country setting limits and rules just pits them against those who don't and hurts them monetarily and becomes a punishment.

I feel so bad now ;-;
I thought to myself, that I will not open this gallery, cause I know what's in there.

We all know about this. We all know about dogs being torched alive in China then eaten . We know about child labour and human trafficking . We know all sorts of evil bits. And we all feel powerless. Do nothing. As if seeing this post, has been enough.
