It wasn't 'overblown' if you were in the path of totality.

The eclipse you're referring to will be in 2019 on July 2nd. And after that, there will be another one visible in the States on April 8th of 2024. This time, it will come up from Mexico and be visible from Texas to Maine! I'm very excited about that one and I'm glad that I won't have to wait that long to see it.

There's another one first in South America, in 2019.

I'm referring to the June 21, 2020 eclipse, because it covers more continental land mass. However, both Kate and velo are correct that there are solar eclipses happening earlier.

Ginger, I was in the path, and it was absolutely beautiful. I still say overblown. Because of exaggerated predictions of crowds and traffic, people stocked up on fuel, every store in Central Oregon overstocked, and travelers coming in brought in their own supplies. We started referring to eclipse day as "the apocalypse."

That eclipse will take place in 2019, not 2020. And then there will be another one across the southeast to the northeastern US in 2024.

I think what John means is that eclipses happen often, all over the globe. Just because this eclipse was witnessable from America does not make it "one of the most epic astronomical phenomenons of the century."
